Abstract

Industrial vehicles communicate across a wireless environment and the wireless communication, data collection and/or processing capabilities of industrial vehicles are leveraged against robust software solutions to implement enterprise wide vehicle management functions, to integrate industrial vehicle data into existing enterprise workflows and/or to enable trusted third party integration into the enterprise for enhanced asset and/or workflow management. Still further, wireless communication, data collection and/or processing capabilities of industrial vehicles are leveraged with robust software solutions that aggregate and analyze data across multiple enterprises and/or promote the exchange of information between independent entities.

Claims (47)

1. A method comprising:

obtaining data by an information master of an industrial vehicle, wherein the information master is a component of the industrial vehicle, and the information master obtains the data by communicating across a vehicle network bus of the industrial vehicle with at least one other component of the industrial vehicle;

storing industrial vehicle information, which is based upon the obtained data, in a memory device that is accessible to the information master, wherein the industrial vehicle information is stored according to a mapping specified by a data object model; and

repeatedly performing by the information master, a cyclically recurring operation including:

extracting at least a portion of the industrial vehicle information stored in the memory device according to the mapping specified by the data object model as broadcast information;

generating at least one broadcast message representing the extracted broadcast information; and

transmitting the generated at least one broadcast message on the vehicle network bus;

wherein the entire contents of the broadcast information are repeatedly transmitted across the vehicle network bus in a cyclically recurring manner.

2. The method according to claim 1 further comprising designating a network bus-enabled vehicle electronic control module as the information master.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the vehicle network bus comprises at least one communications strategy including controller area network (CAN) bus, ZigBee, Bluetooth, Local Interconnect Network (LIN), and time-triggered data-bus protocol (TTP), further comprising:

configuring the information master for transmitting the generated broadcast messages across at least one communications strategy.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the vehicle network bus comprises a controller area network (CAN) bus, further comprising:

configuring the information master for transmitting the generated broadcast messages across the CAN bus.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein repeatedly performing by the information master: transmitting the generated broadcast message on the vehicle network bus, comprises:

transmitting each generated broadcast message based upon a predetermined periodic time interval.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein: transmitting the generated broadcast message on the vehicle network bus comprises:

streaming, by the information master, the broadcast information.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising:

setting a periodic time interval; and

wherein streaming, by the information master, the broadcast information further includes:

performing, by the information master, the extracting, the generating and the transmitting, at times corresponding to the periodic time interval.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the periodic time interval is within a range of 1-999 milliseconds.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

designating an information linking module as the information master.

10. The method according to claim 1 further comprising:

assembling, with the information master, the industrial vehicle information by using the obtained data to create the industrial vehicle information by performing at least one of computing industrial vehicle information from at least a portion of the obtained data and creating statistics from at least a portion of the obtained data.

11. The method according to claim 1 further comprising:

assembling, with the information master, the industrial vehicle information by manipulating the obtained data to derive the industrial vehicle information.

12. The method according to claim 1 further comprising:

receiving, by an information linking device, the broadcast information transmitted across the vehicle network bus; and

wirelessly transmitting by the information linking device, the broadcast information to a remote server.

13. The method according to claim 1 , wherein obtaining data by an information master of an industrial vehicle comprises:

querying the at least one other component of the industrial vehicle across the vehicle network bus.

14. The method according to claim 1 , wherein obtaining data by an information master of an industrial vehicle comprises:

transmitting data from the at least one other component of the industrial vehicle to the information master across the vehicle network bus.

15. The method according to claim 1 , wherein:

generating at least one broadcast message representing the extracted broadcast information comprises generating a plurality of broadcast messages; and

transmitting the generated at least one broadcast message on the vehicle network bus comprises transmitting each of the plurality of broadcast messages based upon an interval therebetween;

wherein:

a device connected to the vehicle network bus must receive each of the plurality of broadcast messages in order to reconstruct the entirety of the broadcast information.

16. The method according to claim 1 further comprising operating in a select one of a live mode or a normal mode, wherein:

when operating in the normal mode, an information linking device connected to the vehicle network bus performs:

receiving the cyclically recurring transmission of the broadcast information; and

logging the received broadcast information; and

when operating in the live mode, the information linking device performs:

receiving the cyclically recurring transmissions of the broadcast information; and

wirelessly transmitting the received broadcast information to a remote server.
