Skin care formulations
Disclosed are compositions and methods for treating skin comprising a chemically compatible combination of skin active ingredients comprising palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, methylsilanol mannuronate, and Lactobacillus ferment, a chemically compatible combination of skin active ingredients comprising plant extracts from Punica granatum, Castanea sativa, Gossypium hirsutum , and Euterpe oleracea , and a dermatologically acceptable vehicle. The compositions can be substantive in that they can remain on a person's skin during sleep.
1. A method of treating skin during sleep comprising:
(a) topically applying a composition to a user's skin prior to the user falling asleep, wherein the composition comprises:
(i) a chemically compatible combination of skin active ingredients comprising palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, methylsilanol mannuronate, and Lactobacillus ferment;
(ii) a chemically compatible combination of skin active ingredients comprising plant extracts from Punica granatum, Castanea sativa, Gossypium hirsutum , and Euterpe oleracea ; and
(iii) a dermatologically acceptable vehicle; and
(b) removing the composition from the user's skin after the user wakes up,
wherein the composition treats the skin during sleep.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied to the user's skin within four hours of the user going to sleep.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied to facial skin.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a cream.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a gel.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is opaque.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is formulated for normal to dry type skin.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is formulated for combo to oily type skin.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dermatologically acceptable vehicle comprises at least 50% by weight of water, 3 to 10% by weight of glycerin, 3 to 10% by weight of butylene glycol, 1 to 3% by weight of glyceryl stearate, 1 to 5% by weight of caprylic/capric triglyceride, and 1 to 5% by weight of hydrogenated polydecene.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dermatologically acceptable vehicle comprises water, glycerin, butylene glycol, glyceryl stearate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, and hydrogenated polydecene.
11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the ratio of water to glycerin is from about 5:1 to about 20:1 based on the total weight of the composition.
12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not include a sunscreen agent.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not include oil.
14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition does not include any other skin active ingredients.
15. A topical skin care composition comprising:
(a) a chemically compatible combination of skin active ingredients comprising palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, methylsilanol mannuronate, and Lactobacillus ferment;
(b) a chemically compatible combination of skin active ingredients comprising plant extracts from Punica granatum, Castanea sativa, Gossypium hirsutum , and Euterpe oleracea ; and
(c) a dermatologically acceptable vehicle.
16. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the dermatologically acceptable vehicle comprises at least 50% by weight of water, 3 to 10% by weight of glycerin, 3 to 10% by weight of butylene glycol, 1 to 3% by weight of glyceryl stearate, 1 to 5% by weight of caprylic/capric triglyceride, and 1 to 5% by weight of hydrogenated polydecene.
17. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the dermatologically acceptable vehicle comprises water, glycerin, butylene glycol, glyceryl stearate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, and hydrogenated polydecene.
18. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the ratio of water to glycerin is from about 5:1 to about 20:1 based on the total weight of the composition.
19. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the dermatologically acceptable vehicle comprises:
(i) water;
(ii) glycerin;
(iii) a combination of butylene glycol and propylene glycol;
(iv) glyceryl stearate;
(v) dimethicone;
(vi) disodium EDTA;
(vii) steareth-20;
(viii) polyethylene glycol-40 stearate;
(ix) caprylic/capric triglyceride;
(x) hydrogenated polydecene;
(xi) methyl trimethicone;
(xii) butyrospermum parkii;
(xiii) sodium polyacrylate; and
(ivx) butylated hydroxytolene.
20. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the composition is an emulsion.
21. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the composition is a gel.
22. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the composition is opaque.
23. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the composition is formulated for normal to dry type skin.
24. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the composition is formulated for combo to oily type skin.
25. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the composition does not include a sunscreen agent.
26. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the composition does not include oil.
27. The topical skin care composition of claim 15 , wherein the composition does not include any other skin active ingredients.
28. A method of firming skin or reducing the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles comprising topically applying the composition of claim 15 to a user's skin in need thereof, wherein topical application of the composition to the skin firms the skin or reduces the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles.
29. The method of claim 28 , wherein the composition is applied to facial skin.
30. The method of claim 28 , wherein the composition is applied to a fine line or wrinkle.
