Abstract

This disclosure describes a system and method for providing relevant offers for a user to replace a mobile communication device in the event that the device is lost, stolen, or otherwise in need of replacement, such as when a device has its SIM card removed or replaced, is inactive for a period of time, is unresponsive to a server monitoring the device, or when other customizable events occur. The disclosed system can determine if and when a mobile communication device may need replacement, and can generate relevant offers to replace the device based upon the user's current device and other factors. The system may also optimize offers to increase the likelihood of acceptance based upon previously accepted offers. In order to provide a comprehensive set of replacement options for a user, the system can aggregate offers from third parties.

Claims (43)

1. A method for providing users with offers to replace a mobile communication device comprising:

monitoring, by at least one server, a plurality of mobile communication devices, the at least one server having access to profile information for each of the plurality of mobile communication devices;

determining, by an offering server, that at least one mobile communication device of the plurality of mobile communication devices needs replacement based on an event affecting the at least one mobile communication device;

using the profile information, generating, by the offering server, one or more offers to replace the at least one mobile communication device with a replacement mobile communication device; and,

transmitting, by the offering server, the one or more offers to a user.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one mobile communication device includes a SIM card, and the event affecting the at least one mobile communication device comprises removing the SIM card from the one of the plurality of mobile communication devices.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining, by the offering server, that at least one mobile communication device of the plurality of mobile communication devices needs replacement comprises:

storing, in a data store accessible by the at least one server, a corresponding password for the at least one mobile communication device;

transmitting, by the at least one server to the at least one mobile communication device, a request for a password; and,

if the at least one mobile communication device responds to the at least one server with a password that does not match the corresponding password, or if the at least one mobile communication device does not respond to the at least one server within a preset time period, then the at least one mobile communication device needs replacement.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining, by the offering server, that at least one mobile communication device of the plurality of mobile communication devices needs replacement comprises:

storing, at the at least one mobile communication device, a corresponding password;

requesting, by the at least one mobile communication device, entry of a password; and,

if the at least one mobile communication device receives an entry that does not match the corresponding password, or if the at least one mobile communication device does not receive an entry, then transmitting to the offering server that the at least one mobile communication device needs replacement.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining, by the offering server, that at least one mobile communication device of the plurality of mobile communication devices needs replacement comprises:

receiving, at the network of servers, data indicating that the one mobile communication device is lost or stolen.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein receiving, at the at least one server, the data from a web interface.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining, by the offering server, that at least one mobile communication device of the plurality of mobile communication devices needs replacement comprises:

monitoring, by the at least one server, a location of the at least one mobile communication device to determine if the at least one mobile communication device remains within a bounded geographic area;

if the at least one mobile communication device is located outside the bounded geographic area, transmitting, by the at least one server, data to the at least one mobile communication device, the data including a request for a response from the at least one mobile communication device; and,

if the at least one server does not receive the response from the at least one mobile communication device, then the at least one mobile communication device needs replacement.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more offers is based upon data received from a vendor.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information for the at least one mobile communication device includes a type for the at least one mobile communication device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information for the at least one mobile communication device includes a country of origin for the at least one mobile communication device.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information for the at least one mobile communication device includes a mobile operator for the at least one mobile communication device.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information for the at least one mobile communication device includes an operating system for the at least one mobile communication device.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the profile information for the at least one mobile communication device includes a hardware configuration for the at least one mobile communication device.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the one or more offers comprises sending an email to a user of the at least one mobile communication device.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the one or more offers comprises publishing the one or more offers on a web interface.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the web interface includes a map, the map including one or more locations where a user of the least one mobile communication device can accept at least one of the one or more offers.

17. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the offering server, data indicating acceptance of at least one of the one or more offers by a user of the at least one mobile communication device; and,

storing, in a data store accessible by the offering server, at least a portion of the data pertaining to acceptance of at least one of the one or more offers.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein receiving, by the offering server, data from a web interface.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein receiving, by the offering server, data from an API.

20. A method for generating one or more offers to replace a mobile communication device comprising:

generating, by an offering server monitoring a plurality of mobile communication devices and having access to profile information for each of the plurality of mobile communication devices, one or more offers to replace at least one mobile communication device of the plurality of mobile communication devices with a replacement mobile communication device, the one or more offers based upon the profile information for the at least one mobile communication device; and,

transmitting, by the offering server, the one or more offers.

21. A method for providing users with offers to replace a mobile communication device comprising:

providing an offering server having access to a plurality of mobile communication devices monitored by at least one server, the offering server also having access to profile information for each of the plurality of mobile communication devices;

determining, by the offering server, that at least one mobile communication device of the plurality of mobile communication devices needs replacement based on an event affecting the at least one mobile communication device;

using the profile information, generating, by the offering server, one or more offers to replace the at least one mobile communication device with a replacement mobile communication device; and,

transmitting, by the offering server, the one or more offers to a user.
