Abstract

A photo is received from a mobile device. The photo is stored at an intermediary server. The photo is formatted at the intermediary server for at least one content provider website. The photo is transmitted to the at least one content provider website. Another method downloads a photo. The method receives in an intermediary web server, content from a content provider website. The content includes at least a photo. The intermediary server determines if the photo is new. If the photo is new, the intermediary server determines if the photo is properly formatted for the mobile device client program and sends the content including the photo to a user device including the client program.

Claims (26)

1. A method for uploading a photo, comprising:

receiving, at an intermediary server a photo from a mobile device;

caching, the photo at the intermediary server for a predetermined time period;

determining, at the intermediary server whether the photo meets respective photo requirements set by at least one social networking website;

formatting, at the intermediary server, the photo according to respective photo requirements set by the at least one social networking website; and

transmitting, the formatted photo to the at least one social networking website;

extending, the predetermined time period each time the photo is uploaded to a different social networking website; and

deleting, the photo at the intermediary server, at the end of the predetermined time period.

2. The method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the step of formatting further includes formatting the photo for a plurality of different content provider websites, the photo formatted according to the respective photo requirements of each content provider web site prior to sending to each respective website.

3. The method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the photos are cached at the intermediary server for storage and later uploaded to different systems without requiring the photo to be uploaded again from the mobile device.

4. The method as defined in claim 1 wherein the photo is uploaded from a mobile device to the intermediary server with an identity (ID) of said at least one social networking website.

5. The method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising sending, by the intermediary server, a message with a photo ID associated with the received photo back to the mobile device.

6. The method as defined in claim 5 , wherein the photo ID identifies a location or pointer to a location where the photo is stored at the intermediary server.

7. The method as defined in claim 5 , wherein the mobile device associates the photo ID with a name of the photo stored in the mobile device.

8. The method as defined in claim 7 , where the mobile device sends the photo ID to the intermediary server and the intermediary server responds to the photo ID to retrieve the photo from the cache and forward it to another social networking website.

9. The method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the respective photo requirements are at least one of dimensions and size requirement of a photo.

10. The method as defined in claim 9 , wherein if the respective photo requirements are met, a back-end portion of the intermediary server sends the photo to a site of the social networking website.

11. The method as defined in claim 9 , wherein if the respective photo requirements are not met, the photo is reformatted in a back-end portion of the intermediary server to resize the photo, whereby the resized photo is formatted according to the respective photo requirements set by the social networking website.

12. The method as defined in claim 11 , wherein in order to resize the photo to a size requirement, a resize factor is determined.

13. The method as defined in claim 12 , wherein an algorithm used to determine the resize factor is:

x/ 100=(( t−f )/( kc )) A (0.5)

x is a resize percent,

t is the target size in bytes,

f is a fudge factor for the file size,

k is a constant factor, and

c is the original size of the photo's file size in bytes.
