Abstract

The present intention relates to an agricultural blend and a method of forming an agricultural blend. The agricultural blend includes a sulfate source and calcium silicate or a by-product of slag, the slag being selected from the group consisting of steel slag, stainless steel slag, alloy steel slag, carbon steel slag, and phosphate slag. The method includes blending a sulfate source and calcium silicate.

Claims (31)

1. An agricultural blend, comprising:

synthetic gypsum;

magnesium silicate; and

calcium silicate;

wherein the synthetic gypsum includes ammonium sulfate.

2. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the synthetic gypsum includes a greater concentration of sulfates than sulfites.

3. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the synthetic gypsum is a by-product formed by flue gas desulfurization in a coal combustion process.

4. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the synthetic gypsum is a by-product formed from a coal combustion process.

5. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the synthetic gypsum is a by-product formed from bottom boiler ash in a coal combustion process.

6. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the synthetic gypsum is a by-product formed from hydrogen sulfide produced from a pickling liquor.

7. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the calcium silicate is a by-product from steel slag.

8. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the calcium silicate is a by-product from alloy steel slag.

9. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the agricultural blend is pelletized.

10. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the agricultural blend is agglomerated.

11. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the agricultural blend includes, by weight, between 75% and 95% being the synthetic gypsum.

12. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the agricultural blend includes, by weight, between 5% to 25% being the calcium silicate.

13. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the agricultural blend includes, by weight, between 5% and 6% H 2 O, between 20% and 24% calcium, between 4% and 6% magnesium, and between 17% and 19% sulfur.

14. The agricultural blend of claim 1 , wherein the agricultural blend includes a pH between 7.5 and 8.5.

15. An agricultural blend, comprising:

synthetic gypsum;

magnesium silicate; and

calcium silicate;

wherein the agricultural blend includes, by weight, between 5% and 6% H 2 O, between 20% and 24% calcium, between 4% and 6% magnesium, and between 17% and 19% sulfur.

16. The agricultural blend of claim 15 , wherein the synthetic gypsum is a by-product formed by flue gas desulfurization in a coal combustion process.

17. The agricultural blend of claim 15 , wherein the synthetic gypsum is a by-product formed from a coal combustion process.

18. The agricultural blend of claim 15 , wherein the synthetic gypsum is a by-product formed from bottom boiler ash in a coal combustion process.

19. The agricultural blend of claim 15 , wherein the synthetic gypsum is a by-product formed from hydrogen sulfide produced from a pickling liquor.

20. The agricultural blend of claim 15 , wherein the calcium silicate is a by-product from steel slag or alloy steel slag.

21. The agricultural blend of claim 15 , wherein the agricultural blend is pelletized.

22. The agricultural blend of claim 15 , wherein the agricultural blend is agglomerated.

23. The agricultural blend of claim 15 , wherein the agricultural blend includes a pH between 7.5 and 8.5.
