Abstract

A sorbent container includes a permeable plastic container, a permeable membrane, and a sorbent. The permeable plastic container includes a sidewall and an endwall, the sidewall defining an opening opposite the endwall. The permeable membrane is fused to the sidewall to cover the opening. A fused junction is formed between the sidewall and the permeable membrane. The sorbent is disposed within the plastic container.

Claims (28)

1 . A sorbent canister comprising:

a permeable plastic container comprising a sidewall and an endwall, the sidewall defining an opening opposite the endwall;

a permeable membrane fused to the sidewall to cover the opening;

a fused junction between the permeable membrane and the sidewall; and

a sorbent within the plastic container.

2 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , wherein the permeable plastic container is injection-molded.

3 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , wherein the endwall is transparent.

4 . The sorbent canister of claim 3 , wherein the sidewall is opaque.

5 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , wherein the endwall is thinner than the sidewall.

6 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , further comprising a beveled surface formed at the fused junction.

7 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , further comprising one or more ribs extending to the sidewall.

8 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , wherein the sorbent is a granular sorbent.

9 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , wherein the sorbent is a liquid sorbent.

10 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , wherein the container has a first permeability and the permeable membrane has a second permeability, different from the first permeability.

11 . The sorbent canister of claim 1 , wherein the sorbent is one of a cream and a gel.

12 . A method of forming a sorbent capsule comprising:

providing a permeable plastic container comprising a sidewall and an endwall, the sidewall defining an opening opposite the endwall;

filling a portion of the permeable plastic container with a sorbent through the opening;

providing a permeable membrane; and

fusing the permeable membrane to the sidewall to cover the opening and retain the sorbent in the container.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the fusing step creates a fused junction and further comprising beveling the fused junction.

14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the endwall has a first thickness and the sidewall has a second thickness, different from the first thickness.

15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the container has a first permeability and the permeability membrane has a second permeability different from the first permeability.

16 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the endwall of the container has a first thickness and the sidewall of the container has a second thickness different from the first thickness.

17 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the endwall of the container is transparent.

18 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the sorbent is a granular sorbent.

19 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the sorbent is a liquid sorbent.

20 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the sorbent is one of a cream and a gel.
