Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed to edit video by receiving a source video; processing the source video with a plurality of tasks including one or more transitions, effects, and audio; assigning the tasks to a plurality of general purpose processor cores and/or a graphics processing unit (GPU); and rendering a video output.

Claims (46)

1 . A process to edit video, comprising:

receiving a source video on a handheld device, a tablet or a mobile phone;

generating a plurality of video or audio edit instructions to be applied to the source video;

assigning the tasks to a plurality of low power processor cores to process the video editing instructions in parallel on the processing cores and reduce power to the cores when not editing video; and

rendering video outputs.

2 . The method of claim 1 , comprising running one or more instructions on a graphics processing unit (GPU).

3 . The method of claim 2 , comprising using the cores and the GPU to accelerate a preview and rendering of motion, opacity, color, and image distortion effects.

4 . The method of claim 1 , comprising deleting, moving, trimming, or splitting a video clip.

5 . The method of claim 1 , comprising scaling the video clip to one of: DV, Digital Betacam, HDV, HDCAM, DVCPRO HD, and D5 HD.

6 . The method of claim 1 , comprising capturing and editing HDV or HDTV content.

7 . The method of claim 1 , comprising playing-back video in real-time.

8 . The method of claim 1 , comprising adding music to the video.

9 . The method of claim 1 , comprising storing the video on a computer.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the computer comprises a local computer or a remote computer.

11 . The method of claim 1 , comprising uploading the video to a video server.

12 . The method of claim 1 , comprising editing comprises switching multiple nestable timelines.

13 . The method of claim 1 , comprising generating surround sound.

14 . A telephone, comprising:

a camera to capture a source video;

a user interface to specify a plurality of video or audio edit instructions to be applied to the source video;

a plurality of low power processor cores to process the video editing instructions in parallel, wherein power to the cores is reduced when not editing video; and

a display coupled to the processor cores to render video outputs.

15 . The telephone of claim 14 , comprising a graphics processing unit (GPU) to process the video or audio edit instructions.

16 . The telephone of claim 14 , comprising code to run on the processor cores to delete, move, trim, or split a video clip.

17 . A mobile device, comprising:

a camera to capture a source video;

a user interface to specify a plurality of video or audio edit instructions to be applied to the source video;

a plurality of low power processor cores to process the video editing instructions in parallel, wherein power to the cores is reduced when not editing video; and

a display coupled to the processor cores to render video outputs.

18 . The mobile device of claim 17 , comprising a graphics processing unit (GPU) to process the video or audio edit instructions.

19 . A system, comprising:

a plurality of low power processing cores;

a graphics processing unit (GPU) coupled to the plurality of the low power processing cores; and

code executable by the processor cores and the GPU to receive a source video; process the source video; and render a video output, wherein the code assigns the instructions to a plurality of low power processor cores to process the video editing instructions in parallel on the processing cores and reduce power to the cores when not editing video.

20 . A mobile device, comprising:

a wireless cellular transceiver to transmit data;

a camera; and

a processor coupled to the camera and the wireless transceiver, the processor having code to:

capture a video using the camera;

display frames of the video for editing;

select one or more frames to be cut;

select one or more transitions to be applied to the video;

select one or more audio tracks to add to the video; and

adjust the audio of the video.

21 . The mobile device of claim 20 , comprising a graphics processing unit (GPU) coupled to the processor.

22 . The mobile device of claim 20 , wherein the mobile device comprises one of: a tablet, a telephone, a camcorder.
