Abstract

An all weather sunshade system for infant carriers includes a main sunshade that is pivotally attached to the infant carrier and an integrally provided sunshade extension. The main sunshade is selectively deployable and includes curved semi-rigid members which support a fabric material and includes a front edge. A rear edge of the sunshade extension is secured along the front edge of the main sunshade structure and is sized and shaped so that it may be selectively drawn forward, when the main sunshade is fully deployed, and secured around a front portion of the infant carrier. In doing so, the sunshade extension remains taut following the contours defined by the shape of the front edge of the main sunshade and the perimeter shape of the front edge of the infant carrier.

Claims (26)

1. A sunshade system comprising:

a car-seat comprising a base having a forward edge and a rear edge and defining a seat for a child; and

a cover secured to the rear edge of the base and operable to at least partially shade a seated child, the cover comprising:

a stretchable material sized such that in an unstretched state the cover does not extend to the forward edge of the base and is operable to be stretched to and engage the forward edge of the base, the cover further comprising a selectively deployable primary sunshade structure, said primary sunshade structure having a forward edge from which the stretchable material extends from toward the front edge of the base and being pivotally attached to said base and selectively deployable between an open position and a covering position, wherein a rear edge of the primary shade is secured relative to the rear edge of the base.

2. The sunshade system according to claim 1 , the cover further comprising a secondary sunshade having a forward edge and a rear edge, wherein said rear edge of said secondary sunshade is secured adjacent to said forward edge of said primary sunshade structure, the secondary sunshade comprising said stretchable material.

3. The sunshade system according to claim 2 , wherein said primary sunshade comprises a water-proof, flexible material.

4. The sunshade system, according to claim 2 , wherein said stretchable material comprises a flexible elastic woven material.

5. The sunshade system, according to claim 2 , wherein said secondary sunshade further comprises an opaque material.

6. The sunshade system, according to claim 2 , wherein said secondary sunshade further comprises a translucent material.

7. The sunshade system, according to claim 2 , wherein said secondary sunshade is permanently secured to said primary sunshade.

8. The sunshade system, according to claim 2 , wherein said secondary sunshade is selectively removably secured to said primary sunshade.

9. The sunshade system according to claim 2 , wherein the secondary sunshade comprises a relatively thinner and more stretchable material than the primary sunshade.

10. The sunshade system according to claim 2 , wherein the base comprises a perimeter enclosing the seat, and the primary sunshade and the secondary sunshade are operable to cover the perimeter of the car seat base when deployed.

11. A sunshade system for a child car-seat, the sunshade system comprising:

a cover operable for attaching to a child car-seat comprising a base having a forward edge and a rear edge and defining a seat for a child to sit, the cover secured to the rear edge of the base, the cover comprising:

a stretchable material sized such that in an unstretched state the cover does not extend to the forward edge of the base and is operable to be stretched to and engage the forward edge of the base, the cover further comprising a primary sunshade structure having a forward edge from which the stretchable material extends from toward the front edge of the base and operable for pivotally attaching to the base, wherein a rear edge of the primary shade is secured relative to the rear edge of the base.

12. The sunshade system according to claim 11 , the cover further comprising a secondary sunshade having a forward edge and a rear edge, wherein said rear edge of said secondary sunshade is secured adjacent to said forward edge of said primary sunshade structure, the secondary sunshade comprising said stretchable material.

13. The sunshade system according to claim 12 , wherein said secondary sunshade is permanently secured to said primary sunshade.

14. The sunshade system according to claim 12 , wherein said secondary sunshade is selectively removably secured to said primary sunshade.

15. The sunshade system according to claim 12 , wherein the secondary sunshade comprises a relatively thinner and more stretchable material than the primary sunshade.

16. A secondary sunshade for a child car-seat, the secondary sunshade comprising:

a first edge configured to be securable adjacent to a forward edge of a primary sunshade structure, the primary sunshade structure configured to be attached to a child car-seat;

a second edge operable for selectively engaging a forward edge of a car-seat base; and

a stretchable material sized such that in an unstretched state the secondary sunshade does not extend to the forward edge of the car-seat base and is operable to be stretched to and engage the forward edge of the base; and

an elastic material at the second edge for engaging a forward edge of a car-seat base,

wherein the primary sunshade structure is configured to be pivotally attached to the child car-seat and selectively deployable between an open position and a covering position.
