Abstract

A housing including a plurality of openings for receiving fiber optic connectors and protecting the polished end face of the connectors from damage while the connectors are stored within a telecommunications connection cabinet. A module with a plurality of optical fiber cables connected to a first optical fiber cable and terminated by a fiber optic connector. Each of the connectors are inserted within openings in a connector holder for storage and protection until the cables need to be connected to a customer equipment cable.

Claims (13)

1. A fiber optic device for use in a telecommunications cabinet having a splitter mounting area and a separate connector storage area, the fiber optic device comprising:

a splitter module that can be releasably mounted at the splitter mounting area of the cabinet, the module including a splitter that connects a first cable to a plurality of second cables, the second cables having ends terminated by fiber optic connectors; and

an integrally molded connector holder unit that is separate from the splitter module and that can be releasably mounted at the connector storage area, the integrally molded connector holder unit releasably holding a plurality of the fiber optic connectors, the fiber optic connectors including polished end faces, and wherein, when the fiber optic connectors are held by the integrally molded connector holder unit, the polished end faces are enclosed and protected by either separate dust caps or closed-ended openings of the integrally molded connector holder unit.

2. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the splitter module includes a latch for releasably mounting the splitter module at the splitter mounting area of the cabinet.

3. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the integrally molded connector holder unit includes a latch for releasably mounting the integrally molded connector holder unit at the connector storage area of the cabinet.

4. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the polished end faces are enclosed and protected by the separate dust caps when the fiber optic connectors are held by the integrally molded connector holder unit.

5. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the polished end faces are enclosed and protected by the closed-ended openings of the integrally molded connector holder unit when the fiber optic connectors are held by the integrally molded connector holder unit.

6. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein eight of the fiber optic connectors are held in a row by the integrally molded connector holder unit.

7. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the integrally molded connector holder unit has a first end positioned opposite from a second end, and wherein a latch is positioned at the first end and a tab is positioned at the second end.

8. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the integrally molded connector holder unit includes a plurality of openings for receiving the fiber optic connectors.

9. The fiber optic device of claim 8 , wherein latches are provided for retaining the fiber optic connectors within the openings.

10. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein the integrally molded connector holder unit releasably holds the plurality of the fiber optic connectors in a row.

11. The fiber optic device of claim 1 , wherein an exit member projects outwardly from the splitter module, wherein the second cables are routed out the splitter module through the exit member.
