Abstract

A novel gene 158P3D2 and its encoded protein, and variants thereof, are described wherein 158P3D2 exhibits tissue specific expression in normal adult tissue, and is aberrantly expressed in the cancers listed in Table I. Consequently, 158P3D2 provides a diagnostic, prognostic, prophylactic and/or therapeutic target for cancer. The 158P3D2 gene or fragment thereof, or its encoded protein, or variants thereof, or a fragment thereof, can be used to elicit a humoral or cellular immune response; antibodies or T cells reactive with 158P3D2 can be used in active or passive immunization.

Claims (13)

1. An isolated polynucleotide that encodes a 158P3D2 protein, wherein the polynucleotide is selected from the group consisting of:

(a) a polynucleotide comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, from nucleotide residue numbers 1 through 849, wherein the nucleotide residue at 150 is G;

(b) a polynucleotide comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, from nucleotide residue numbers 849 through 1835, wherein the nucleotide residue at 1022 is A;

(c) a polynucleotide comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, from nucleotide residue numbers 849 through 1835, wherein the nucleotide residue at 1148 is A;

(d) a polynucleotide comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, from nucleotide residue numbers 849 through 1835, wherein the nucleotide residue at 1691 is T; and

(e) a polynucleotide comprising the sequence of SEQ ID NO:2, from nucleotide residue numbers 849 through 1835, wherein the nucleotide residue at 1692 is G.

2. An isolated polynucleotide that is the full complement to the polynucleotide of claim 1 .

3. The polynucleotide of claim 1 that encodes the polypeptide sequence shown in SEQ ID NO:3 wherein S58R, K281N, or T282A.

4. A recombinant expression vector comprising the polynucleotide of claim 1 .

5. An isolated host cell that contains the expression vector of claim 4 .

6. A process for producing a 158P3D2 protein comprising culturing the host cell of claim 5 under conditions sufficient for the production of the 158P3D2 protein.

7. The process of claim 6 , further comprising recovering the 158P3D2 protein so produced.

8. The process of claim 6 , wherein the protein is recovered using chromatography.
