Abstract

A telecommunications connection cabinet includes a termination region, a fiber optic splitter mounting location, and a predetermined connector storage region positioned within an interior of a housing. The termination region includes telecommunications adapters, each telecommunications adapter being configured for coupling together two fiber optic connectors such that an optical interconnection is made between the two fiber optic connectors. The connector storage region is spaced from the termination region. The storage region defines openings allotted to removably mount connector storage housings at the connector storage region.

Claims (18)

1. A telecommunications cabinet comprising:

a cabinet housing defining an interior, the cabinet housing having an access opening that is configured to be opened and closed by a door;

an array of adapters positioned within the interior of the cabinet housing, the adapters each having a first end that is mateable with a first fiber optic connector and a second end that is mateable with a second fiber optic connector;

a connector holder module that mounts within the interior of the cabinet housing, the connector holder module including a plurality of connector holders for holding and storing the first fiber optic connectors, the connector holders not being conventional fiber optic adapters and the connector holders deflecting when the the first fiber optic connectors are inserted into the connector holders; and

fiber optic cords having ends terminated by the first fiber optic connectors, wherein the first fiber optic connectors are inserted into the first ends of the adapters to provide optical connections with customers, and wherein the first fiber optic connectors are stored at the connector holder module when inactive.

2. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein dust caps are securely fit and held about ferrules of the first fiber optic connectors while the first fiber optic connectors are held by the connector holders.

3. The telecommunications cabinet of claims 2 , wherein the connector holders include main housings and inner housings mounted within the main housings, the inner housings including clip arms, the inner housings also including cross-pieces that extend between the clip arms and define openings for receiving the dust caps.

4. The telecommunications cabinet of claims 2 , wherein the connector holders each define a separate opening for receiving an end of one of the first fiber optic connectors.

5. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 further comprising a fiber optic splitter mounted within the interior of the cabinet housing.

6. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , further comprising a splice module mounted within the interior of the cabinet housing.

7. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , further comprising a fanout module mounted within the interior of the cabinet housing.

8. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 , wherein the connector holder module mounts to a rack within the interior of the cabinet housing.

9. The telecommunications cabinet of claims 1 , wherein the connector holders define cavities and open ends that permit insertion of the first fiber optic connectors into the cavities.

10. The telecommunications cabinet of claims 9 wherein the connector holders include catches for holding the first fiber optic connectors.

11. The telecommunications cabinet of claims 1 , wherein the connector holders include clip arms for holding the first fiber optic connectors.

12. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 wherein the connector holders of the connector holder module include a row of connector holders.

13. The telecommunications cabinet of claims 1 , wherein the connector holders each define a separate cavity for receiving one of the first fiber optic connectors.

14. The telecommunications cabinet of claim 1 wherein connections at the second ends of the adapters are pre-configured and cabled before the telecommunications cabinet leaves the manufacturing facility.
