Abstract

Methods of the present inventions allow for locking a website. An exemplary method may comprise the steps of hosting a website on at least one server communicatively coupled to a network, receiving a request to lock the website, and, responsive to the request, changing access permissions to “read-only” for a directory, folder, file, database, or database table rendering the website functional.

Claims (39)

1. A method, comprising:

A) hosting a website on at least one server computer communicatively coupled to a network;

B) receiving, by one or more of said at least one server computer, a request to lock said website; and

C) responsive to receiving said request to lock:

changing, by one or more of said at least one server computer, at least one access permission on a filesystem of the at least one server computer to a read-only status for at least one directory, at least one folder, or at least one file rendering said website functional, and

changing, by one or more of said at least one server computer, at least one access permission to a read-only status for at least one database table rendering said website functional.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said website resolves from a domain name registered to a registrant.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said request to lock is received from said registrant.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein said request to lock is received via a control panel website hosted on at least one website management server computer.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said control panel website is password-protected.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein said control panel website is configured to enable said registrant to control a plurality of settings for said website.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein said plurality of settings comprise a plurality of access permissions for said at least one directory, said at least one folder, or said at least one file.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein said plurality of access permissions are selected from the group consisting of a write permission, a read permission, an execute permission, an update permission, a delete permission, and a drop permission.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein said plurality of settings enable and disable file transfer to said website.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein said plurality of settings enable and disable file transfer to said website via file transfer protocol, file transfer protocol-secure, secure copy protocol, or secure shell network protocol.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein said request to lock further comprises a lock time period.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising: saving an original setting for said at least one access permission before changing said at least one access permission.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

restoring said at least one access permission to said original setting when said lock time period expires.

14. A method, comprising:

A) storing at least one file in at least one folder or at least one directory on at least one web server computer communicatively coupled to a network;

B) storing at least one database and at least one database table on at least one database server computer communicatively coupled to said network;

C) hosting a website on one or more of said at least one web server computer communicatively coupled to said network, said website configured to provide functionality by accessing said at least one directory, said at least one folder, said at least one file, said at least one database, or said at least one database table;

D) receiving, by said at least one web server computer, a request to lock said website; and

E) responsive to receiving said request to lock:

changing, by one or more of said at least one web server computer, an access permission on a filesystem of the at least one server computer to a read-only status for said at least one directory, said at least one folder, or said at least one file rendering said website functional, and

changing, by one or more of said at least one web server computer, an access permission to a read-only status for said at least one database table rendering said website functional.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein said website resolves from a domain name registered to a registrant.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein said request to lock is received from said registrant.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein said request to lock is received via a control panel website hosted on at least one website management server computer.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein said control panel website is password-protected.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein said control panel website is configured to enable said registrant to control a plurality of settings for said website.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein said plurality of settings comprise a plurality of access permissions for said at least one directory, said at least one folder, or said at least one file.

21. The method of claim 20 , wherein said plurality of access permissions are selected from the group consisting of a write permission, a read permission, an execute permission, an update permission, a delete permission, and a drop permission.

22. The method of claim 19 , wherein said plurality of settings enable and disable file transfer to said website.

23. The method of claim 22 , wherein said plurality of settings enable and disable file transfer to said website via file transfer protocol, file transfer protocol-secure, secure copy protocol, or secure shell network protocol.

24. The method of claim 14 , wherein said request to lock further comprises a lock time period.

25. The method of claim 24 , further comprising: saving an original setting for said at least one access permission before changing said at least one access permission.

26. The method of claim 25 , further comprising: restoring said at least one access permission to said original setting when said lock time period expires.
