Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for dynamically generating validation rules. In certain implementations, state information related to one or more operations is stored. A request for validation rules is received from a client. The request may include one or more parameters and an identification of an operation to be performed. In response to the request, the state information is accessed for the operation to be performed. The validation rules are then dynamically generated based on the accessed state information and at least one of the parameters or the identification in the request. The validation rules can then be transmitted to the client.

Claims (53)

1. A computer-implemented method for dynamically generating validation rules, comprising:

storing state information related to one or more operations, the state information including account information associated with one or more users;

receiving, from a client, a request for validation rules, the request including one or more parameters, the one or more parameters including an identification of a user, and an identification of an operation to be performed;

accessing, in response to the request, state information for the operation to be performed, wherein accessing includes accessing account information associated with the identification of the user included in the request;

dynamically generating, using a processor, the validation rules in response to the request for validation rules based on the accessed state information and at least one of the parameters or the identification included in the request;

transmitting the validation rules to the client in response to the request for validation rules; and

receiving input data from the client,

wherein the input data conforms to the validation rules transmitted to the client.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

in response to receiving the input data, validating the input data based on the state information for the operation to be performed and at least one of the parameters or the identification included in the request.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the validation rules comprise at least one constraint on the input data.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

encoding the validation rules in XML.

5. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium including program instructions which, when executed by a processor, perform a method for dynamically generating validation rules, the method comprising:

storing state information related to one or more operations, the state information including account information associated with one or more users;

receiving, from a client, a request for validation rules, the request including one or more parameters, the one or more parameters including an identification of a user, and an identification of an operation to be performed;

accessing, in response to the request, state information for the operation to be performed, wherein accessing includes accessing account information associated with the identification of the user included in the request;

dynamically generating the validation rules in response to the request for validation rules based on the accessed state information and at least one of the parameters or the identification included in the request;

transmitting the validation rules to the client in response to the request for validation rules; and

receiving input data from the client,

wherein the input data conforms to the validation rules transmitted to the client.

6. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the method further comprises:

in response to receiving the input data, validating the input data based on the state information for operation to be performed and at least one of the parameters or the identification included in the request.

7. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the validation rules comprise at least one constraint on the input data.

8. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the method further comprises:

encoding the validation rules in XML.

9. A system for dynamically generating validation rules, comprising:

a storage for storing state information related to one or more operations, the state information including account information associated with one or more users;

a processor for executing program instructions for:

receiving, from a client, a request for validation rules, the request including one or more parameters, the one or more parameters including an identification of a user, and an identification of an operation to be performed;

transmitting the validation rules to the client in response to the request for validation rules; and

receiving input data from the client,

wherein the input data conforms to the validation rules transmitted to the client; and

a constraint generator for:

accessing, in response to the request, state information for the operation to be performed, wherein accessing includes accessing account information associated with the identification of the user included in the request; and

dynamically generating the validation rules in response to the request for validation rules based on the accessed state information and at least one of the parameters or the identification in the request.

10. The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

a constraint validator for, in response to receiving the input data, validating the input data based on the state information for the operation to be performed and at least one of the parameters or the identification in the request.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the validation rules comprise at least one constraint on the input data.

12. The system of claim 9 , further comprising:

an encoder for encoding the validation rules in XML.

13. A validation method for a client-server environment, comprising:

receiving an identification of an operation to be performed;

transmitting a request for validation rules to a server, the request including one or more parameters, the one or more parameters including an identification of a user, and the identification of the operation;

receiving the validation rules from the server in response to the request for validation rules, wherein the validation rules are dynamically generated by the server in response to the request for validation rules based on state information related to the operation to be performed and the parameters, the state information including account information associated with the identification of the user included in the request;

receiving input data; and

transmitting the input data to the server,

wherein the input data transmitted to the server conforms to the validation rules.

14. The validation method of claim 13 , wherein the validation rules comprise at least one constraint on the input data.

15. The validation method of claim 13 , wherein:

the request includes an identification of a user; and

the validation rules are dynamically generated by the server based further upon account information associated with the identification of the user.

16. The validation method of claim 13 , wherein the validation rules are encoded in XML.
