Abstract

Certain example embodiments of this invention relate to articles including anticondensation and/or low-E coatings that are exposed to an external environment, and/or methods of making the same. In certain example embodiments, the anticondensation and/or low-E coatings may be survivable in an outside environment. The coatings also may have a sufficiently low sheet resistance and hemispherical emissivity such that the glass surface is more likely to retain heat from the interior area, thereby reducing (and sometimes completely eliminating) the presence condensation thereon. The articles of certain example embodiments may be, for example, skylights, vehicle windows or windshields, IG units, VIG units, refrigerator/freezer doors, and/or the like.

Claims (26)

1. An insulating glass unit (IGU), comprising:

a first glass substrate;

a plurality of layers sputter-disposed, directly or indirectly, on a first major surface of the first glass substrate, the plurality of layers including, in order moving away from the first glass substrate:

a first layer comprising silicon oxynitride having an index of refraction of 1.5-2.1,

a layer comprising ITO having an index of refraction of 1.7-2.1, and

a second layer comprising silicon oxynitride having an index of refraction of 1.5-2.1;

a second glass substrate in substantially parallel, spaced apart relation to the first glass substrate, the first major surface of the first glass substrate facing away from the second glass substrate when assembled; and

an edge seal sealing together the first and second glass substrates,

wherein the first glass substrate is heat treated with the plurality of layers disposed thereon, and

wherein the first substrate with the plurality of layers on the first major surface of the first glass substrate has a hemispherical emissivity of less than or equal to about 0.20 and a sheet resistance less than or equal to about 20 ohms/square following said heat treating.

2. A coated article, comprising:

a glass substrate supporting a plurality of layers sputter-deposited, directly or indirectly, on a first major surface thereof, the plurality of layers including, in order moving away from the glass substrate:

a first layer comprising silicon oxynitride having an index of refraction of 1.5-2.1,

a layer comprising ITO having an index of refraction of 1.7-2.1, and

a second layer comprising silicon oxynitride having an index of refraction of 1.5-2.1;

wherein the glass substrate is heat treated with the plurality of layers disposed thereon, and

wherein the substrate with the plurality of layers on the first major surface of the first glass substrate has a hemispherical emissivity of less than or equal to about 0.20 and a sheet resistance less than or equal to about 20 ohms/square following said heat treating.

3. The coated article of claim 2 , wherein the first and second layers comprising silicon oxynitride each have an index of refraction of from 1.7-1.8.

4. The coated article of claim 2 , wherein the layer comprising ITO has an index of refraction of from 1.8-1.93.

5. The coated article of claim 2 , wherein the layer comprising ITO is located between and directly contacting each of the first and second layers comprising silicon oxynitride.

6. The coated article of claim 2 , wherein the first layer comprising silicon oxynitride directly contacts the glass substrate.

7. The coated article of claim 6 , wherein the layer comprising ITO is located between and directly contacting each of the first and second layers comprising silicon oxynitride.

8. The coated article of claim 7 , wherein the second layer comprising silicon oxynitride is the outermost layer of a coating including the plurality of layers on the glass substrate.

9. The coated article of claim 2 , wherein the second layer comprising silicon oxynitride is the outermost layer of a coating including the plurality of layers on the glass substrate.

10. The coated article of claim 2 , wherein a coating including the plurality of layers on the glass substrate consists essentially of the first and second layers comprising silicon oxynitride and the layer comprising ITO.

11. The coated article of claim 2 , wherein the first and second layers comprising silicon oxynitride are doped with aluminum.
