Abstract

A method for decoding a video bitstream is disclosed. The method comprises: entropy decoding a first portion ( 112 - 1 ) of a video bitstream ( 52 ), wherein first portion ( 112 - 1 ) of video bitstream is associated with a video frame ( 110 ), thereby producing a first portion ( 112 - 1 ) of decoded data; entropy decoding a second portion ( 112 - 2 ) of video bitstream ( 52 ), wherein second portion ( 112 - 2 ) of video bitstream ( 52 ) is associated with video frame ( 110 ), thereby producing a second portion ( 112 - 2 ) of decoded data, wherein entropy decoding second portion ( 112 - 2 ) of video bitstream ( 52 ) is independent of entropy decoding first portion ( 112 - 1 ) of video bitstream ( 52 ); and reconstructing a first portion ( 112 - 1 ) of video frame ( 110 ) associated with video bitstream ( 52 ) using first portion ( 112 - 1 ) of decoded data and second portion ( 112 - 2 ) of decoded data.

Claims (17)

1. A method for decoding a video frame in a video sequence, said method comprising:

a) receiving a bitstream;

b) identifying a reconstruction slice in said bitstream;

c) analyzing a flag of a slice header in said bitstream,

d) identifying a first partitioned slice and a second partitioned slice, each of which is a partitioning of a region of a picture in said reconstruction slice in said bitstream;

e) entropy decoding said first partitioned slice, thereby producing a first entropy-decoded partitioned slice;

f) entropy decoding said second partitioned slice, thereby producing a second entropy-decoded partitioned slice;

g) reconstructing a first portion of a video frame associated with said first partitioned slice using said first entropy-decoded partitioned slice, thereby producing a first reconstructed portion of said video frame; and

h) reconstructing a second portion of said video frame associated with said second partitioned slice using said second entropy-decoded partitioned slice and said first reconstructed portion of said video frame;

wherein in case of said flag is equal to 1, said slice header is a partitioned slice header,

in case of said flag being equal to 0, said slice header is a regular slice header,

and said partitioned slice header is different than the regular slice header and shares some of the slice attributes with said regular slice header, and the size of said partitioned slice header is smaller than the size of said regular slice header.

2. A method as described in claim 1 , wherein entropy decoding said first partitioned slice comprises:

a) initializing a plurality of context models; and

b) updating said plurality of context models during said entropy decoding said first partitioned slice.

3. A method as described in claim 2 , wherein said first partitioned slice is identified by a first header.

4. A method as described in claim 1 , wherein said reconstruction slice corresponds to the entirety of said video frame.
