Abstract

A useable particulate nepheline syenite having a grain size to provide an Einlehner Abrasive Value of less than about 100 is described. The particulate nepheline syenite is generally free from agglomeration and moisture free. At least 99% of the nepheline syenite particles have a size less than 10 microns. In practice, the nepheline syenite grain size is less than about 5 microns and the distribution profile of the particulate system is generally 4-5 microns.

Claims (6)

1. An ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder, said powder having a controlled D99 maximum particle size between about 5 microns and 10 microns, wherein said powder has a D50 particle size of less than about 2.0 microns and a D10 particle size of less than about 0.5 microns.

2. An ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder as defined in claim 1 wherein said powder is essentially free of added moisture.

3. An ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder as defined in claim 2 wherein the small fines of less than about 0.2 microns have been removed.

4. An ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder as defined in claim 1 wherein the D99 maximum particle size is about 5 microns.

5. An ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder as defined in claim 4 wherein said powder is essentially free of added moisture.

6. An ultra-fine nepheline syenite powder as defined in claim 5 wherein the small fines of less than about 0.2 microns have been removed.
