Abstract

The subject invention provides methods for reducing atrial fibrillation (AF) episode duration, methods for reducing stroke rate, methods for increasing time in normal sinus rhythm (NSR), methods for preventing atrial remodeling, and methods for reversing atrial remodeling, all comprising administering an amount of budiodarone effective to reduce AF episode duration.

Claims (27)

. A method for reducing atrial fibrillation (AF) episode duration comprising administering an amount of budiodarone effective to reduce AF episode duration.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the average AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 24 hours.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the average AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 5 hours.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the average AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 3 hours.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the average AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 1 hour.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the maximum AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 20 hours.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the maximum AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 10 hours.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the maximum AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 5 hours.

. A method for reducing stroke rate comprising administering an amount of budiodarone effective to reduce AF episode duration.

. The method of claim 9 , wherein the average AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 24 hours.

. The method of claim 9 , wherein the maximum AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 20 hours.

. A method for increasing time in normal sinus rhythm (NSR) comprising administering an amount of budiodarone effective to reduce AF episode duration.

. The method of claim 12 , wherein the average AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 24 hours.

. The method of claim 12 , wherein the maximum AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 20 hours.

. A method for preventing atrial remodeling comprising administering an amount of budiodarone effective to reduce AF episode duration.

. The method of claim 15 , wherein the average AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 24 hours.

. The method of claim 15 , wherein the maximum AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 20 hours.

. A method for reversing atrial remodeling comprising administering an amount of budiodarone effective to reduce AF episode duration.

. The method of claim 18 , wherein the average AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 24 hours.

. The method of claim 18 , wherein the maximum AF episode duration is reduced to less than about 20 hours.

. The method of claim 18 , wherein the reversal of atrial remodeling is defined as a measured increase in AFCL at the right atrial appendage or distal coronary sinus of at least 6 milliseconds.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the patient was refractory to one or more anti-arrhythmic drugs.

. The method of claim 9 , wherein the patient was refractory to one or more anti-arrhythmic drugs.

. The method of claim 12 , wherein the patient was refractory to one or more anti-arrhythmic drugs.

. The method of claim 15 , wherein the patient was refractory to one or more anti-arrhythmic drugs.

. The method of claim 18 , wherein the patient was refractory to one or more anti-arrhythmic drugs.

. The method of claim 21 , wherein the patient was refractory to one or more anti-arrhythmic drugs.
