Abstract

A low to moderate temperature heat source comprising a high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures wherein the high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is positioned between two thin pieces to form a close contact sheath. In one embodiment the high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is a nanolaminate multilayer foil of reactive materials that produces a heating level of less than 200° C.

Claims (16)

1 . An apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures, comprising:

a high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures,

said high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures positioned between two thin pieces to form a close contact sheath.

2 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is a nanolaminate.

3 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is a nanolaminate multilayer foil of reactive materials.

4 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is a nanolaminate multilayer foil of reactive materials that produces a heating level of approximately 80 to 150° C.

5 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is a nanolaminate multilayer foil of reactive materials that produces a heating level of less than 200° C.

6 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is a nanolaminate having a composition and thickness that maintains a heating level of less than 200° C.

7 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is a nanolaminate having a composition and thickness that maintains a heating level of 80 to 150° C.

8 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said two thin pieces are conductors.

9 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said two thin pieces are insulators.

10 . The apparatus for producing low to moderate temperatures of claim 1 wherein said high temperature energy source modified to output low to moderate temperatures is a Al/Ni laminate and said two thin pieces are two thin pieces of Al.

11 . An method of producing heat source of low to moderate temperatures, comprising the steps of:

providing a nanolaminate multilayer foil of reactive materials having a composition and thickness that will provide a heating level of less than 200° C.

positioning said nanolaminate multilayer foil of reactive materials between two thin pieces to form a close contact sheath.

The method of producing a heat source of low to moderate temperatures of claim 11 wherein said step of providing a nanolaminate multilayer foil of reactive materials having a composition and thickness that will provide a heating level of less than 200° C. produces a heating level of approximately 80 to 150° C.
