Abstract

An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern.

Claims (61)

1 . An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising:

an aerosol container adapted to contain sprayable material;

a valve assembly mounted on the aerosol container;

an actuator member comprising a valve stem for engaging the valve assembly;

a movable member; and

a dispensing path extending from the interior of the aerosol chamber to the exterior of the aerosol chamber, where the dispensing path is defined at least in part by the valve assembly, the actuator, and the movable member; whereby

the actuator member engages the valve assembly such that displacement of the actuator member causes the valve assembly to prevent or allow fluid flow along the dispensing path; and

the movable member is configured such that movement of the movable member alters an effective cross-sectional area of at least a portion of a dispensing path to control fluid flow along the dispensing path and thereby cause the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern.

2 . An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising:

an aerosol container adapted to contain sprayable material;

a valve assembly mounted on the aerosol container;

an actuator member comprising a valve stem for engaging the valve assembly;

a outlet member adapted to engage the actuator member; and

a dispensing path extending from the interior of the aerosol chamber to the exterior of the aerosol chamber, where the dispensing path is defined at least in part by the valve assembly, the actuator, and the outlet member; whereby

the actuator member engages the valve assembly such that displacement of the actuator member causes the valve assembly to prevent or allow fluid flow along the dispensing path; and

the outlet member defines an effective cross-sectional area of an outlet opening portion of the dispensing path to control fluid flow through the outlet opening portion of the dispensing path and thereby cause the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern.

3 . An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising:

an aerosol container adapted to contain sprayable material;

a valve assembly mounted on the aerosol container;

an actuator member comprising a valve stem for engaging the valve assembly;

an outlet member adapted to engage the actuator member; and

a dispensing path extending from the interior of the aerosol chamber to the exterior of the aerosol chamber, where the dispensing path is defined at least in part by the valve assembly, the actuator, and the outlet member; whereby

the actuator member engages the valve assembly such that displacement of the actuator member causes the valve assembly to prevent or allow fluid flow along the dispensing path; and

the outlet member defines an effective cross-sectional area of an outlet opening portion of the dispensing path to control fluid flow through the outlet opening portion of the dispensing path and thereby cause the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern.

4 . An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising:

an aerosol container adapted to contain sprayable material;

a valve assembly mounted on the aerosol container;

an actuator member comprising a valve stem for engaging the valve assembly;

an outlet member adapted to engage the actuator member;

at least one plug member adapted to engage the outlet member; and

a dispensing path extending from the interior of the aerosol chamber to the exterior of the aerosol chamber, where the dispensing path is defined at least in part by the valve assembly, the actuator, and the outlet member; whereby

the actuator member engages the valve assembly such that displacement of the actuator member causes the valve assembly to prevent or allow fluid flow along the dispensing path;

the outlet member defines an effective cross-sectional area of an outlet opening portion of the dispensing path; and

the at least one plug member engages the outlet member to alter the effective cross-sectional area of the outlet opening portion of the dispensing path, thereby controlling fluid flow through the outlet opening portion of the dispensing path and causing the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern.

5 . An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising:

an aerosol container adapted to contain sprayable material;

a valve assembly mounted on the aerosol container;

an actuator member comprising a valve stem for engaging the valve assembly;

an outlet member adapted to engage the actuator member; and

a dispensing path extending from the interior of the aerosol chamber to the exterior of the aerosol chamber, where the dispensing path is defined at least in part by the valve assembly, the actuator, and the outlet member; whereby

the actuator member engages the valve assembly such that displacement of the actuator member causes the valve assembly to prevent or allow fluid flow along the dispensing path;

the outlet member defines an effective cross-sectional area of an outlet opening portion of the dispensing path; and

the outlet member is deformable to alter the effective cross-sectional area of the outlet opening portion of the dispensing path, thereby controlling fluid flow through the outlet opening portion of the dispensing path and causing the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern.

6 . An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising:

an aerosol container adapted to contain sprayable material;

a valve assembly mounted on the aerosol container;

an actuator member comprising a valve stem for engaging the valve assembly; and

a plurality of the outlet members; and

a dispensing path extending from the interior of the aerosol chamber to the exterior of the aerosol chamber, where the dispensing path is defined at least in part by the valve assembly, the actuator, and the plurality of outlet members; whereby

the actuator member engages the valve assembly such that displacement of the actuator member causes the valve assembly to prevent or allow fluid flow along the dispensing path;

the outlet members define an effective cross-sectional area of an outlet opening portion of the dispensing path; and

movement of the outlet members alters the effective cross-sectional area of the outlet opening portion of the dispensing path, thereby controlling fluid flow through the outlet opening portion of the dispensing path and causing the sprayable material to be dispensed in the desired spray pattern.

7 . An aerosol system for dispensing sprayable material in a desired spray pattern, comprising:

an aerosol container adapted to contain sprayable material;

a valve assembly mounted on the aerosol container;

an actuator member comprising a valve stem for engaging the valve assembly;

a flexible outlet member that engages the actuator member and defines an outlet opening;

a support structure for supporting the flexible outlet member for movement relative to the aerosol container; and

a dispensing path extending from the interior of the aerosol chamber to the exterior of the aerosol chamber, where the dispensing path is defined at least in part by the valve assembly, the actuator, and the flexible outlet member; whereby

the actuator member engages the valve assembly such that displacement of the actuator member causes the valve assembly to prevent or allow fluid flow along the dispensing path; and

movement of the flexible outlet member relative to the aerosol container alters a direction in which the sprayable material is dispensed relative to the aerosol container.
