Abstract

A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) includes an input port, a processor, and an output port. The input port receives near-real-time network state data. The processor makes optimization decisions based upon the near-real-time network state data. The processor also produces policy enforcement messages based upon the optimization decisions. The PCRF transmits the policy enforcement message via the output port.

Claims (27)

1 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) comprising:

an input port for receiving near-real-time network state data;

a processor for making optimization decisions based upon the near-real-time network state data and producing a policy enforcement message based at least in part upon the optimization decisions; and

an output port for transmitting the policy enforcement message.

2 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the near-real-time network state data comprises network data measurement.

3 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein near-real-time network state data comprises time of day information.

4 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein near-real-time network state data comprises QoS environment.

5 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein near-real-time network state data comprises radio channel conditions.

6 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein near-real-time network state data comprises network loading.

7 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein near-real-time network state data comprises network topology.

8 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein near-real-time network state data comprises charging policies.

9 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein near-real-time network state data comprises QoS policies.

10 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the processor performs data analysis.

11 . A policy and charging rules function (PCRF) in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the processor performs data reduction.

12 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving real-time data collected from various monitoring tools;

combining the real-time data with persistent network data to produce combined network data;

filtering the combined network data to produce a parsimonious subset of key relevant variables; and

making a decision based upon the key relevant variables.

13 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system in accordance with claim 12 , the method further comprising the step of compressing the combined network data.

14 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system in accordance with claim 12 , wherein the persistent network data comprises network topology information.

15 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system in accordance with claim 12 , wherein the persistent network data comprises subscriber policies.

16 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system in accordance with claim 12 , wherein the persistent network data comprises dynamic network data.

17 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system in accordance with claim 16 , wherein the dynamic network data comprises network topology information.

18 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system in accordance with claim 16 , wherein the dynamic network data comprises network load.

19 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system in accordance with claim 16 , wherein the dynamic network data comprises network latency.

20 . A method for monitoring a wireless communication system in accordance with claim 16 , wherein the dynamic network data comprises subscriber policy information.
