Abstract

The invention provides a compound of formula I: wherein R 1 -R 6 , X, Y, and B have any of the values described herein, as well as salts of such compounds, compositions comprising such compounds, and therapeutic methods that comprise the administration of such compounds. The compounds are inhibitors of MAO-B enzyme function and are useful for improving cognitive function and for treating psychiatric disorders in animals.

Claims (32)

1. A method comprising administering an effective amount of a compound to an animal for inhibiting one or more MAO enzymes in said animal, wherein said compound is selected from the group consisting of:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said animal is a healthy animal.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said animal is an aged animal.

4. A method comprising administering an effective amount of a compound to an animal for improving cognitive function in said animal, wherein the compound is selected from the group consisting of:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said animal is a healthy animal.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein said animal is an aged animal.

7. The method of claim 4 , wherein said animal has a psychiatric disorder.

8. The method of claim 4 , wherein said animal has a psychotic disorder, a neurological disorder, or a neurotic disorder.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein said psychotic disorder is schizophrenia.

10. The method of claim 4 , wherein said animal has a disorder of the central nervous system.

11. The method of claim 4 , wherein said animal has head trauma, brain trauma or cerebrovascular disease.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein said cerebrovascular disease is vascular dementia.

13. The method of claim 4 , wherein said animal has attention deficit disorder.

14. The method of claim 4 , wherein said animal has an affective disorder.

15. A method comprising administering an effective amount of a compound to an animal for activating the CREB pathway in said animal, wherein said compound is selected from the group consisting of:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

16. A method comprising administering an effective amount of a compound for treatment of age-associated memory impairment, cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease to an animal in need of such treatment, wherein said compound is selected from the group consisting of:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein said cognitive impairment is associated with depression.

18. A method comprising administering an effective amount of a compound for treatment of a psychiatric disorder to an animal in need of such treatment, wherein said compound is selected from the group consisting of:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein said psychiatric disorder is a psychotic disorder, a neurological disorder, or a neurotic disorder.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein said psychotic disorder is schizophrenia.

21. The method of claim 18 , wherein said psychiatric disorder is a disorder of the central nervous system.

22. The method of claim 21 , wherein said disorder of the central nervous system is age-associated memory impairment, mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer's disease or Parkinson's disease.

23. The method of claim 18 , wherein said psychiatric disorder is associated with head trauma, brain trauma or cerebrovascular disease.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein said cerebrovascular disease is vascular dementia.

25. The method of claim 18 , wherein said psychiatric disorder is attention deficit disorder.

26. The method of claim 18 , wherein said psychiatric disorder is an affective disorder.
