Method and System for Providing Energy Related Information Associated with Gateway Connected Devices
A broadband gateway which enables communication with a plurality of devices may be operable to determine an energy consumption metric associated with each application usage in each of the devices. The broadband gateway may handle at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider. The energy consumption metric and/or related information may be communicated to a user who may be associated with one or more of the plurality of devices. The energy consumption metric and/or the related information may be communicated to the user via a graphical user interface (GUI), a text-based interface, an audio interface and/or an electronic program guide (EPG). The broadband gateway may offer a credit and/or a reward based on a selection of a choice of consuming the application with reduced energy consumption. The broadband gateway may generate alerts based on monitored energy consumption and a monthly threshold.
1 . A method for communication, the method comprising:
in a broadband gateway that enables communication with a plurality of devices, wherein said broadband gateway is operable to handle at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider:
determining an energy consumption metric associated with each application usage in each of said plurality of devices; and
communicating said energy consumption metric and/or related information to a user associated with one or more of said plurality of devices.

The method of claim 1 , wherein said at least one physical layer connection comprises a plurality of physical layer connections and said at least one corresponding network access service provider comprises a plurality of corresponding network access service providers, and each of said plurality of physical layer connections corresponds to a respective one of said plurality of corresponding network access service providers.
3 . The method according to claim 1 , comprising communicating said energy consumption metric and/or said related information to said user via a graphical user interface (GUI).
4 . The method according to claim 1 , comprising communicating said energy consumption metric and/or said related information to said user via an electronic program guide (EPG).
5 . The method according to claim 1 , comprising communicating said energy consumption metric and/or said related information to said user via a text-based interface and/or an audio interface.
6 . The method according to claim 1 , comprising communicating one or more choices for consuming an application in said one or more of said plurality of devices, based on said energy consumption metric associated with each of said one or more choices, to said user.
7 . The method according to claim 6 , comprising offering a credit and/or a reward based on a selection of one of said one or more choices of consuming said application with reduced energy consumption.
8 . The method according to claim 1 , comprising monitoring said application usage and/or energy consumption of said one or more of said plurality of devices.
9 . The method according to claim 8 , comprising generating one or more alerts based on said monitored energy consumption and a monthly threshold.
10 . The method according to claim 9 , comprising communicating said one or more alerts for presentation to said user and/or other entities.
11 . A system for communication, the system comprising:
one or more processors and/or circuits for use in a broadband gateway that enables communication with a plurality of devices, wherein said broadband gateway is operable to handle at least one physical layer connection to at least one corresponding network access service provider, and said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to:
determine an energy consumption metric associated with each application usage in each of said plurality of devices; and
communicate said energy consumption metric and/or related information to a user associated with one or more of said plurality of devices.

The system of claim 1 , wherein said at least one physical layer connection comprises a plurality of physical layer connections and said at least one corresponding network access service provider comprises a plurality of corresponding network access service providers, and each of said plurality of physical layer connections corresponds to a respective one of said plurality of corresponding network access service providers.
13 . The system according to claim 11 , wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to communicate said energy consumption metric and/or said related information to said user via a graphical user interface (GUI).
14 . The system according to claim 11 , wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to communicate said energy consumption metric and/or said related information to said user via an electronic program guide (EPG).
15 . The system according to claim 11 , wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to communicate said energy consumption metric and/or said related information to said user via a text-based interface and/or an audio interface.

The system according to claim 11 , wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to communicate one or more choices for consuming an application in said one or more of said plurality of devices, based on said energy consumption metric associated with each of said one or more choices, to said user.
17 . The system according to claim 16 , wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to offer a credit and/or a reward based on a selection of one of said one or more choices of consuming said application with reduced energy consumption.
18 . The system according to claim 11 , wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to monitor said application usage and/or energy consumption of said one or more of said plurality of devices.
19 . The system according to claim 18 , wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to generate one or more alerts based on said monitored energy consumption and a monthly threshold.
20 . The system according to claim 19 , wherein said one or more processors and/or circuits are operable to communicate said one or more alerts for presentation to said user and/or other entities.
