Abstract

A sequencer that measures a nucleic acid sequence in a nucleic acid strand includes: a base material having a surface made of silicon, and a fibrous protrusion that is made of silicon dioxide and is directly joined to the surface of the base material made of silicon, wherein a plurality of the nucleic acid strands are fixed onto the fibrous protrusion.

Claims (10)

1. A sequencer for measuring nucleic acid sequence, said sequencer comprising:

a base material having a surface formed from silicon; and

fibrous protrusions formed from amorphous silicon dioxide and being directly joined to the surface of the base material, each fibrous protrusion of the fibrous protrusions being minutely undulating and curing, having a crimped shape, and being configured so as to intertwine with other fibrous protrusions of the fibrous protrusions, wherein the fibrous protrusions are capable of fixing at least one of nucleic acid strands and a nucleic acid template onto the fibrous protrusions.

2. The sequencer according to claim 1 , wherein each fibrous protrusion of the fibrous protrusions has a functionalized portion,

the sequencer further comprising

for each fibrous protrusion, the nucleic acid template fixed onto the functionalized portion so as to act as a template to amplify nucleic acids.

3. The sequencer according to claim 2 , wherein the fibrous protrusions are configured to have a plurality of nucleic acid strands having the same sequence fixed onto the same region thereof.

4. The sequencer according to claim 1 , wherein the base material has a recessed portion with a bottom surface and a side wall surface, and the fibrous protrusions are formed on at least one of the bottom surface and the side wall surface.

5. The sequencer according to claim 1 , wherein the each fibrous protrusion of the fibrous protrusions has a plurality of branches.

6. The sequencer according to claim 1 , wherein the fibrous protrusions include a first fibrous protrusion and a second fibrous protrusion, the first fibrous protrusion being intertwined with the second fibrous protrusion.
