Abstract

A method ( 100 ) is proposed for safely switching back to a first computer center (DC 1 ) following failover by a second computer center (DC 2 ), where at least one transaction terminal is connected as a client (CLA) to the second computer center (DC 2 ) during the downtime of the first computer center (DC 1 ) and at the end of the downtime is switched back again to the first computer center (DC 1 ), where the following steps are performed: the second computer center (DC 2 ) is shown that the first computer center (DC 1 ) is operational again (step 110 ); the client (CLA) is prompted to go out of service (step 120 ); synchronization (STD) of configuration and/or transaction data between the first and second computer centers is performed (step 130 ); at the conclusion of synchronization(STD), the client (CLA) is prompted to switch back to the first computer center (DC 1 ) (step 140 ).

Claims (11)

1. A method for securely switching a client back to a first computer center after the client was connected to a second computer center during downtime of the first computer center, said method comprising:

determining that the first computer center is operational again;

causing the client to go out of service when the first computer center is determined to be operational again;

synchronizing configuration and/or transaction data between the first computer center and second computer center while the client is out of service; and

once synchronizing is completed, prompting the client to return to operation and to switch back to the first computer center.

2. The method from claim 1 , wherein the client is a self-service terminal, selected from the group of a cash dispenser (ATM), account statement printer or money transfer terminal, that is normally connected to the first computer center and is only connected to the second computer center during downtime of the first computer center.

3. The method from claim 1 , wherein the first and second computer centers and associated databases are operated in active/active mode.

4. The method from claim 1 , wherein several transaction terminals are switched back to the first computer center as a cluster of clients by causing one client after another to go out of service.

5. The method from claim 1 , wherein for each transaction a backup data record is stored locally on the client, where the individual backup data record is stored in a first data container when the associated transaction is performed using the first, preferred computer center, or in a second data container when the associated transaction is carried out using the first computer center.

6. The method from claim 1 , wherein when the second computer center is informed over a specifiable time period that the first computer center is not operational, the second computer center or another computer center being assigned to the client as the preferred computer center.

7. A network structure to execute the method from claim 1 having a first computer center at a first location and at least a second computer center that is provided at a second location for failover of the first computer center, where at least one transaction terminal is connected as a client to the second computer center during downtime of the first computer center in order to be switched back to the first computer center at the end of the downtime, wherein the second computer center sends an inquiry to the first computer center at specifiable intervals to inquire whether the first computer center is operational again; in that the second computer center sends a command to the client to cause the client to go out of service; in that the second computer center carries out synchronization of configuration transaction data with the first computer center over a data link; and in that at the conclusion of synchronization, the second computer center sends an additional command to the client to cause the client to switch back to the first computer center.
