Abstract

A method of managing a signal over a symbol period includes supplying samples of the signal at beginning and end portions of the symbol period. The method further includes suppressing the supply of samples of the signal at a middle portion of the symbol period.

Claims (33)

1. A method for transmitting digital data, the method comprising:

generating a sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data;

partially processing the sequence of signals as a function of processing select subsets of the sequence of signals and bypassing remaining subsets of the sequence of signals;

selecting from among processed subsets and bypassed subsets of the sequence of signals; and

converting selected subsets of the sequence of signals into an analog signal for transmission to a receiver.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein processing the select subsets includes processing the beginning and end portions of the symbols of the digital data.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein bypassing the remaining subsets includes bypassing the mid portion of the symbols of the digital data.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein generating a sequence of signals includes generating a block of samples for each signal of the sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein generating a sequence of signals includes performing an inverse Fourier transform on each signal of the sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein partially processing the sequence of signals includes buffering at least one signal of the sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data includes discontinuities that occur at the beginning portions and end portions of the symbols of the digital data.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein selecting from among processed subsets and bypassed subsets of the sequence of signals includes multiplexing processed subsets and bypassed subsets.

9. An apparatus for transmitting digital data, the apparatus comprising:

a sequence generation module to generate a sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data;

a partial processing module to partially process the sequence of signals as a function of processing select subsets of the sequence of signals and bypassing remaining subsets of the sequence of signals;

a selection module to select from among processed subsets and bypassed subsets of the sequence of signals; and

a conversion module to convert selected subsets of the sequence of signals into an analog signal for transmission to a receiver.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the partial processing module is arranged to process the select subsets as a function of processing the beginning and end portions of the symbols of the digital data.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the partial processing module is arranged to bypass the remaining subsets as a function of bypassing the mid portion of the symbols of the digital data.

12. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the sequence generation module is configured to generate a block of samples for each signal of the sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data.

13. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the sequence generation module includes an inverse Fourier transform module configured to perform an inverse Fourier transform on each signal of the sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data.

14. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the partial processing module includes at least one buffer configured to store at least one signal of the sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data.

15. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data includes discontinuities that occur at the beginning portions and end portions of the symbols of the digital data.

16. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the selection module includes a multiplexer configured to multiplex processed subsets and bypassed subsets.

17. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the partial processing module is a partial sequence filter.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the partial sequence filter is implemented with a digital signal processor.

19. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the partial sequence filter is implemented with a dedicated hardware circuit.

20. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the partial sequence filter is a symmetric filter.

21. An article of manufacture, comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon computer readable-code with executable instructions to transmit digital data, the computer readable-code when executed by a processor, causes an apparatus to perform least the following:

generating a sequence of signals corresponding to symbols of the digital data;

partially processing the sequence of signals as a function of processing select subsets of the sequence of signals and bypassing remaining subsets of the sequence of signals;

selecting from among processed subsets and bypassed subsets of the sequence of signals; and

converting selected subsets of the sequence of signals into an analog signal for transmission to a receiver.
