Abstract

The present invention provides isolated polypeptides isolatable from a Yersinia spp. Also provided by the present invention are compositions that include one or more of the polypeptides, and methods for making and methods for using the polypeptides.

Claims (41)

1 . A composition comprising:

two isolated polypeptides having molecular weights of 83 kDa, 70 kDa, 66 kDa, or a combination thereof, and two isolated polypeptides having molecular weights of 40 kDa, 38 kDa, or 37 kDa, or a combination thereof, wherein molecular weight is determined by electrophoresis on a sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel, wherein the polypeptides having a molecular weight of 83 kDa, 70 kDa, or 66 kDa are isolatable from a Yersinia enterocolitica when incubated in media comprising an iron chelator and not isolatable when grown in the media without the iron chelator, and wherein the composition protects a mouse against challenge with Y. enterocolitica ATCC strain 27729.

2 - 62 . (canceled)

63 . A composition comprising a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 132.

64 . The composition of claim 63 wherein the polypeptide is covalently bound to a carrier polypeptide.

65 . The composition of claim 63 further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

66 . The composition of claim 63 further comprising amino acids 5-10 of SEQ ID NO:119.

67 . The composition of claim 66 wherein the polypeptide is covalently bound to a carrier polypeptide.

68 . The composition of claim 66 further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

69 . A method comprising:

administering to a subject a composition in an amount effective to treat an infection caused by a gram negative microbe, wherein the composition comprises:

a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 132; or

antibody that specifically binds to a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 132.

70 . A method comprising:

administering to a subject a composition in an amount effective to decrease colonization of the subject by a gram negative microbe, wherein the composition comprises:

a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 132; or

antibody that specifically binds to a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 132.

71 . A method comprising:

administering to a subject a composition in an amount effective to treat a symptom of a condition caused by infection by a gram negative microbe, wherein the composition comprises:

a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 132; or

antibody that specifically binds to a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 132.

72 . A composition comprising a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 42.

73 . The composition of claim 72 wherein the polypeptide is covalently bound to a carrier polypeptide.

74 . The composition of claim 72 further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

75 . The composition of claim 74 further comprising amino acids 10-20 of SEQ ID NO:56.

76 . The composition of claim 74 further comprising amino acids 17-22 of SEQ ID NO:57.

77 . The composition of claim 76 further comprising amino acids 10-20 of SEQ ID NO:56.

78 . A method comprising:

administering to a subject a composition in an amount effective to treat an infection caused by a gram negative microbe, wherein the composition comprises:

a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 42; or

antibody that specifically binds to a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 42.

79 . A method comprising:

administering to a subject a composition in an amount effective to decrease colonization of the subject by a gram negative microbe, wherein the composition comprises:

a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 42; or

antibody that specifically binds to a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 42.

80 . A method comprising:

administering to a subject a composition in an amount effective to treat a symptom of a condition caused by infection by a gram negative microbe, wherein the composition comprises:

a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 42; or

antibody that specifically binds to a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No 42.

81 . A composition comprising amino acids 1-9 of SEQ ID NO:327, amino acids 10-18 of SEQ ID NO:344, and amino acids 1-7 of SEQ ID NO:326.

82 . The composition of claim 81 further comprising amino acids 5-10 of SEQ ID NO:329.
