Abstract

A liquid crystal display panel, including: a pixel electrode formed on a first substrate; an alignment layer formed on the pixel electrode, wherein the alignment layer includes an alignment layer material and aligns first liquid crystal molecules in a direction substantially perpendicular to the pixel electrode; and a photo hardening layer formed on the alignment layer, wherein the photo hardening layer includes a photo hardening layer material and aligns second liquid crystal molecules to be tilted with respect to the pixel electrode, wherein the alignment layer material and the photo hardening layer material have different polarities from each other.

Claims (25)

1. A liquid crystal display panel, comprising:

a pixel electrode formed on a first substrate;

an alignment layer formed on the pixel electrode, wherein the alignment layer includes an alignment layer material and aligns first liquid crystal molecules in a direction substantially perpendicular to the pixel electrode; and

a photo hardening layer formed on the alignment layer, wherein the photo hardening layer includes a photo hardening layer material and aligns second liquid crystal molecules to be tilted with respect to the pixel electrode,

wherein the photo hardening layer is continuously formed on the alignment layer from the pixel electrode across a light blocking layer to another pixel electrode,

wherein the alignment layer and the photo hardening layer form an alignment film, and the alignment film is formed on the pixel electrode,

wherein the pixel electrode includes a first subpixel electrode that includes a plurality of first micro branches and first micro slits and a second subpixel electrode that includes a plurality of second micro branches and second micro slits,

wherein the first subpixel electrode includes a first cross-shaped micro branch connection portion connecting the first micro branches and the second subpixel electrode includes a second cross-shaped micro branch connection portion connecting the second micro branches,

wherein the second subpixel electrode includes four domains defined by the second cross-shaped micro branch connection portion, and at least one of the four domains includes a first region in which widths of the second micro branches and widths of the second micro slits are the same, a second region in which widths of the second micro slits are greater than widths of the second micro branches, and a third region in which widths of the second micro slits increase near the second region.

2. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 1 , wherein the photo hardening layer material comprises a dianhydride-based monomer and a diamine-based monomer.

3. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 2 , wherein. the diamine-based monomer comprises a photo-reactive diamine-based monomer, an alkylated aromatic diamine-based monomer, and an aromatic diamine based monomer.

4. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 3 , wherein the dianhydride-based monomer comprises an alicyclic dianhydride-based monomer.

The liquid crystal display panel of claim 4 , wherein when excluding a solvent from the alignment layer material and the photo hardening layer material, the alicyclic dianhydride-based monomer is about 2.5 mol % to about 7.5 mol % of the photo hardening layer material and the alignment layer material, the photo-reactive diamine-based monomer is about 0.75 mol % to about 2.25 mol % of the photo hardening layer material and the alignment layer material, the alkylated aromatic diamine based monomer is about 0.75 mol % to about 2.25 mol % of the photo hardening layer material and the alignment layer material, and the aromatic diamine-based monomer is about 1 mol % to about 3 mol % of the photo hardening layer material and the alignment layer material.

The liquid crystal display panel of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of first micro branches, are arranged at a first angle with respect to a polarization axis of a polarizer disposed adjacent to the first substrate or a second substrate, and the plurality of second micro branches are arranged at a second angle with respect to the polarization axis of the polarizer disposed adjacent to the first substrate or the second substrate.

7. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 6 , wherein an area of the first region is about 50% to about 80% of an area of the second subpixel electrode in the domain in which the first region is located.

8. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 7 , wherein widths of the micro branches are about 3 μm to about 4 μm in the first, second and third regions.

The liquid crystal display panel of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of first or second micro branches include a conductive material, the first micro slits are formed between the plurality of first micro branches in an area absent the conductive material or the second micro slits are formed between the plurality of second micro branches in an area absent the conductive material, and the plurality of first or second micro branches and the plurality of first or second micro slits have widths of about 1.5 μm to about 5 μm.

10. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the plurality of first or second micro branches and at least one of the plurality of first or second micro slits have a stripe shape, a bat shape, a zigzag shape, a wave shape, or an entasis shape.

11. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 6 , wherein a ratio of an area of the second subpixel electrode to an area of the first subpixel electrode is about 1.5 to about 2.

The liquid crystal display panel of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of first micro branches are divided into domains by the first cross-shaped micro branch connection portion and the first micro branches in one domain are asymmetrical to the first micro branches in another domain about the first micro branch connection portion, or the second micro branches in one domain are asymmetrical to the second micro branches in another domain about the second micro branch connection portion.

The liquid crystal display panel of claim 4 , wherein the alignment layer material comprises a dianhydride-based monomer comprising an alicyclic dianhydride-based monomer, a diamine-based monomer comprising an aromatic diamine-based monomer and an aliphatic ring substituted aromatic diamine-based monomer, and a crosslinker comprising an aromatic epoxide-based monomer, and wherein the alicyclic dianhydride-based monomer of the photo hardening layer material comprises tricyclo-hexyl dianhydride, the photo-reactive diamine-based monomer comprises mono-methacrylic benzenediamine, the alkylated aromatic diamine-based monomer comprises mono-alkylated phenylcyclohexy benzenediamine, the aromatic diamine-based monomer of the alignment layer material comprises terphenyl diamine, the aliphatic ring substituted aromatic diamine-based monomer comprises cholesteryl benzenediamine, the aromatic epoxide-based monomer comprises a hexaepoxy benzene derivative, and the aromatic diamine-based monomer of the alignment layer material comprises a hexaepoxy benzene derivative.

14. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 1 , wherein the alignment layer material comprises a dianhydride-based monomer, a diamine-based monomer, and a crosslinker.

The liquid crystal display panel of claim 14 , wherein the dianhydride-based monomer comprises an alicyclic dianhydride-based monomer, the diamine-based monomer comprises an aromatic diamine-based monomer and an aliphatic ring substituted aromatic diamine-based monomer, and the crosslinker comprises an aromatic epoxide-based monomer.

The liquid crystal display panel of claim 15 , wherein when excluding a solvent from the alignment layer material and the photo hardening layer material, the alicyclic dianhydride-based monomer is about 39.5 mol % to about 49.5 mol % of the alignment layer material and the photo hardening layer material, the aromatic diamine-based monomer is about 30.5 mol % to about 40.5 mol % of the alignment layer material and the photo hardening layer material, the aliphatic ring substituted aromatic diamine-based monomer is about 7.5 mol % to about 10.5 mol % of the alignment layer material and the photo hardening layer material, and the aromatic epoxide-based monomer is about 0.5 mol % to about 1.5 mol % of the alignment layer material and the photo hardening layer material.

17. The liquid crystal display panel of claim 1 , wherein a pre-tilt angle of the photo hardening layer is about 87.5 ° to about 89.5°.
