Abstract

A system for managing prescription data is provided. The system for managing prescription data includes a switch system. The switch system is configured to receive prescription submissions from pharmacy systems. Each prescription submission identifies a prescription having a prescription item, a fill date, a number of dosages, an identification of whether the prescription requires refilling, and a dose frequency. The switch system is further configured to submit the prescription submissions to approval systems, receive responses from the approval systems, and transmit the responses to the pharmacy systems. The switch system is further configured to determine, using the plurality of prescription submissions, when each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions should be refilled.

Claims (33)

1 . A prescription data management system comprising:

a switch system embodied on a non-transitory computer readable storage medium, the switch system configured to:

receive a plurality of prescription submissions sent from a plurality of pharmacy systems, each of the plurality of prescription submissions identifying a prescription having:

a prescription item;

a fill date;

a number of dosages;

an identification of whether the prescription requires refilling; and

a dose frequency;

submit the plurality of prescription submissions to one or more approval systems;

receive a plurality of responses to the first prescription submissions from the one or more approval systems, each of the plurality of responses associated with a prescription submission and identifying an approved price or a denial for the associated prescription submission;

transmit the plurality of responses to the plurality of pharmacy systems, each pharmacy system receiving a response associated with a prescription submission sent by that pharmacy system; and

determine, using the plurality of prescription submissions, when each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions should be refilled.

2 . The prescription data management system of claim 1 , wherein the switch system is further configured to generate a notification of a date on which a prescription identified by the plurality of prescription submissions will require refilling.

3 . The prescription data management system of claim 2 , wherein the notification comprises a value of refilling the prescription.

4 . The prescription data management system of claim 1 , wherein the switch system is further configured to rank each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions which are past the date on which the prescription should have been refilled, based on the number of days each prescription is past the date on which the prescription should have been refilled.

5 . The prescription data management system of claim 1 , wherein the switch system is further configured to determine a value of refilling each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions which are past the date on which the prescription should have been refilled.

6 . The prescription data management system of claim 5 , wherein the switch system is further configured to rank each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions which are past the date on which the prescription should have been refilled, based on the value of refilling each of the prescriptions.

7 . A method for prescription data management comprising:

receiving, by a switch system operating on a hardware server platform, a plurality of prescription submissions sent from a plurality of pharmacy systems, each of the plurality of prescription submissions identifying a prescription having:

a prescription item;

a fill date;

a number of dosages;

an identification of whether the prescription requires refilling; and

a dose frequency;

submitting, by the switch system, the plurality of prescription submissions to one or more approval systems;

receiving, by the switch system, a plurality of responses to the first prescription submissions from the one or more approval systems, each of the plurality of responses associated with a prescription submission and identifying an approved price or a denial for the associated prescription submission;

transmitting, by the switch system, the plurality of responses to the plurality of pharmacy systems, each pharmacy system receiving a response associated with a prescription submission sent by that pharmacy system; and

determining, by the switch system using the plurality of prescription submissions, when each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions should be refilled.

8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising generating, by the switch system, a notification of a date on which a prescription identified by the plurality of prescription submissions will require refilling.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the notification comprises a value of refilling the prescription.

10 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising ranking, by the switch system, each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions which are past the date on which the prescription should have been refilled, based on the number of days each prescription is past the date on which the prescription should have been refilled.

11 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising determining, by the switch system, a value of refilling each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions which are past the date on which the prescription should have been refilled.

12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising ranking, by the switch system, each of the prescriptions identified by the plurality of prescription submissions which are past the date on which the prescription should have been refilled, based on the value of refilling each of the prescriptions.
