Flared Cone Fitting
The present invention is an improved flared cone fitting of the type having a male portion and a female portion having a tube, an inverted conical annulus, a nut, and a joinder portion. It is improved by the joinder portion including a back-side annular face, which may define a void. The joinder portion may also include an abutment intended to contact a shoulder of a fitting nut and properly direct forces exerted on the nut.

26 . A method of producing a female portion of a flared cone fitting comprising the steps of:
providing a tube;
reshaping said tube to comprise an inverted conical annulus; and,
reshaping said tube to comprise an axial restraining portion.
27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein said axial restraining portion extends generally orthogonally to said tube.
28 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:
reshaping said tube to comprise a void having a portion extending generally radially beyond an extended peripheral limit of said tube and generally axially interior to said inverted conical annulus.
29 . The method of claim 28 , shaping the tube to comprise a backside annular face, wherein said backside annular face defines at least a portion of said void.
30 . The method of claim 26 , wherein said flared cone fitting is formed comprising an integral joinder portion, which comprises said inverted conical annulus and said axial restraining portion.
31 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:
placing said tube over a die;
punching to reshape said tube until said inverted conical annulus is formed; and
punching to reshape said tube until said axial restraining portion is formed.
32 . The method of claim 26 , wherein said reshaping said tube to include an inverted conical annulus comprises reshaping said tube to include an inverted conical annulus formed with an angle of 30-50 degrees from an outside diameter of said tube.
33 . The method of claim 30 , wherein said integral joinder portion is formed comprising a camming portion configured to facilitate positioning of a nut when said female portion is connected to a male portion.
34 . The method of claim 33 , wherein said camming portion is formed to comprise a portion generally parallel to an outside diameter of said tube, at a second, generally larger, outside diameter.
35 . The method of claim 34 , wherein said integral joinder portion is formed to further comprise a surface generally parallel to said outside diameter of said tube, generally larger than said second outside diameter.
36 . The method of claim 26 , wherein said void is created to enable said female potion to flex relative to said male portion without loosening a nut joining a male portion and said female portion.
37 . The method of claim 26 , wherein said void if created to generally reduce friction between said tube and a nut joining a male portion and said female portion.
38 . The method of claim 37 , wherein said reduction in friction generally reduces loosening of said nut.
39 . A method of producing a female portion of a flared cone fitting comprising the steps of:
providing a tube;
reshaping said tube to include an inverted conical annulus;
reshaping said tube to include an axial restraining portion; and
reshaping said tube to comprise a void having a portion extending generally radially beyond an extended peripheral limit of said tube and generally axially interior to said inverted conical annulus.
40 . The method of claim 39 , wherein said axial restraining portion is shaped to extend generally orthogonally to said tube.
41 . The method of claim 39 , wherein said tube is shaped to comprise a backside annular face, which defines at least a portion of said void.
42 . The method of claim 39 , wherein said flared cone fitting is formed comprising an integral joinder portion, which comprises said inverted conical annulus and said axial restraining.
43 . The method of claim 42 , wherein said integral joinder portion is formed comprising a camming portion configured to facilitate positioning of a nut when said female portion is connected to a male portion.
44 . The method of claim 43 , wherein said camming portion comprises a portion generally parallel to an outside diameter of said tube, at a second, generally larger, outside diameter.
45 . The method of claim 44 , wherein said integral joinder portion is fanned to further comprise a surface generally parallel to said outside diameter of said tube, generally larger than said second outside diameter.
