Abstract

An apparatus and method for performing warming therapy is described. In one exemplary embodiment, the apparatus includes a patient support assembly and an air circulation system coupled to the patient support assembly, which includes first and second air flow channels which are separate from one another. The first and second air flow channels may be separately activated, depending upon the air flow required. Additionally, the elements of the air circulation system are easily disassembled, so as to allow easy cleaning of the system which, in turn, maintains a sterile patient environment.

Claims (24)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a patient support assembly; and,

an air circulation system coupled to the patient support assembly, said air circulation system including first and second air flow channels which are separate from one another,

wherein the first air flow channel includes a first fan device and the second air flow channel includes a second fan device, such that the air flow through the first and second air flow channels may be separately controlled, and wherein the first air flow channel includes a first volute housing disposed therein, and the second air flow channel includes a second volute housing disposed therein.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a mattress tray assembly coupled to the patient support assembly, the air circulation system forming part of the mattress tray assembly.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the first air flow channel is formed on a first side of the mattress tray assembly and the second air flow channel is formed on a second opposing side of the mattress tray assembly.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the air circulation system includes a first nozzle which acts as an air return.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the first nozzle is coupled to first and second air flow tubes.

6. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the first air flow tube is coupled to the first air flow channel, and the second air flow tube is coupled to the second air flow channel.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein each of the first and second air flow channels are formed of first and second air circulation members.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , the air circulation system additionally including an air control device and a first nozzle, wherein the air control device may be configured to direct air towards the first nozzle, which acts as an air return.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the air control device includes at least one flow element.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the air flow channels is formed of a base member, a first air circulation member and a second air circulation member.

11. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the first and second air flow tubes are transparent.

12. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the air circulation system includes at least one nozzle including a porous flow element.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first fan device is disposed at a turn of the first air flow channel.

14. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the air circulation system includes at least one nozzle including a flexible tip.

15. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the air circulation system includes at least one humidity inlet with a longitudinal axis disposed substantially parallel to a tilt axis of the mattress tray assembly.

16. An apparatus comprising:

a patient support assembly; and,

an air circulation system coupled to the patient support assembly, said air circulation system including first and second air flow channels which are separate from one another,

wherein the first air flow channel includes a first fan device and the second air flow channel includes a second fan device, such that the air flow through the first and second air flow channels may be separately controlled,

wherein each of the first and second air flow channels are formed by the combination of a base member, a first air circulation member, and a second air circulation member, such that at least one wall of the second air circulation member overlaps at least one wall of the base member, and

wherein the base member includes first and second volute housings formed therein, the first volute housing corresponding to the first air flow channel, and the second volute housing corresponding to the second air flow channel.
