Abstract

An interactive input system comprises at least two imaging assemblies capturing image frames of a region of interest from different vantages and processing structure processing image frames captured by the imaging assemblies to determine the location of a pointer within the region of interest, wherein each imaging assembly comprises an image sensor and integrated signal processing circuitry.

Claims (26)

1 . An interactive input system comprising:

at least two imaging assemblies capturing image frames of a region of interest from different vantages; and

processing structure processing image frames captured by said imaging assemblies to determine the location of a pointer within the region of interest, wherein each imaging assembly comprises an image sensor and integrated signal processing circuitry.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the signal processing circuitry and image sensor of each imaging assembly are mounted on a common printed circuit board.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the signal processing circuitry and image sensor of each imaging assembly is fabricated on an integrated circuit die.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the signal processing circuitry is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA).

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the signal processing circuitry is implemented on a digital signal processor (DSP).

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the signal processing circuitry is at least partly implemented on an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC).

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the signal processing circuitry comprises circuitry implemented on an application specific integrated circuit (ASIC).

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the signal processing circuitry comprises a micro-DSP.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the micro-DSP is implemented on the ASIC.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the ASIC, micro-DSP and image sensor are mounted on a common printed circuit board.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the ASIC, micro-DSP and image sensor are fabricated on a single integrated circuit die.

12 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the signal processing circuitry of each imaging assembly generates pointer data from image data generated by the associated image sensor.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the signal processing circuitry of each imaging assembly determines pointer hover and contact status from the image data.

14 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processing structure comprises a lighting controller for driving radiation sources that illuminate the region of interest.

15 . The system of claim 1 , wherein, the processing structure comprises a spotlight processor to extract regions of image frames containing a pointer.

16 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processing structure comprises a bezel processor to track pointers in image frames.

17 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the lighting controller deactivates the radiation sources when the imaging assemblies are inactive.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the lighting controller synchronizes operation of the radiation sources with the image frame capture rates of said imaging assemblies.

19 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the bezel processor processes captured image frames to reduce the effect of ambient light.

20 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processing structure is a cell-based processor.

21 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the processing structure is a graphics processor.

22 . An interactive input system comprising:

at least one imaging device having a field of view looking into a region of interest; and

at least one radiation source emitting radiation into said region of interest, wherein during image frame capture by said at least one imaging device, the operation of the at least one radiation source is synchronized with the exposure time of said at least one imaging device.
