Compounds of general formula (I) A compound of general formula (I) in which— R 1 and R 0 have any of the meanings given in the specification have affinity for sigma receptors and are useful in the treatment of disorders of the central nervous system.

A method of treating a condition responsive to a modulator of sigma receptor function in a patient requiring treatment, which comprises administering to the patient an effective amount of a compound selected from 1-[2-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)ethyl]-4-(3-phenylpropyl)piperazine and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
