Integrated medical software system with custom reporting
An integrated medical software system with custom reporting is disclosed. The system comprises a database that stores clinical data, scheduling data, patient data, and financial data in a normalized data format; a clinical module that creates an electronic document and that captures clinical data in the electronic document in the normalized data format during an encounter with a patient; a scheduling module that captures scheduling data in the normalized data format and that schedules the patient and at least one of a clinician, a staff member, and equipment at a healthcare provider using the scheduling data and the patient data; an account management module that captures financial data in the normalized data format and that creates at least one of a bill, a claim, or a statement for the patient using the financial data and the clinical data; a reports component with multiple filter and sort options that are defined by a user of the system to generate custom reports that display the clinical data, the scheduling data, the patient data, and the financial data in various customized combinations according to the filter and sort options that are chosen to generate the custom reports; and a framework module that is integrated with the clinical module, the scheduling module, the account management module, and the reports component using a common architecture and that supports an exchange of the clinical data, the scheduling data, the patient data, and the financial data between those modules, the reports component, and the database in the normalized data format, wherein the filter and sort options corresponding to a custom report can be saved for future use in generating custom reports.

63 . An integrated medical software system with custom reporting, the system comprising:
a database that stores clinical data, scheduling data, patient data, and financial data in a normalized data format;
a clinical software module executed by a processor of the system to create an electronic document and to capture clinical data for a patient in the electronic document in the normalized data format during an encounter with the patient;
a scheduling software module executed by the processor of the system to capture scheduling data in the normalized data format and to schedule the patient and at least one of a clinician, a staff member, and equipment at a healthcare provider using the scheduling data and the patient data;
an account management software module executed by the processor of the system to capture financial data in the normalized data format and to create at least one of a bill, a claim, or a statement for the patient using the financial data and the clinical data;
a reports software component executed by the processor of the system to provide multiple filter and sort options that are defined by a user of the system to generate custom reports that display the clinical data, the scheduling data, the patient data, and the financial data in various customized combinations according to the filter and sort options that are chosen to generate the custom reports; and
a framework software module that is integrated with the clinical software module, the scheduling software module, the account management software module, and the reports software component using a common architecture and that is executed by the processor of the system to support an exchange of the clinical data, the scheduling data, the patient data, and the financial data between those software modules, the reports software component, and the database in the normalized data format,
wherein the filter and sort options corresponding to a custom report can be saved for future use in generating custom reports.
64 . The integrated medical system of claim 63 , wherein
said clinical data includes at least one of a reason for visit, referral information, a presenting symptom, a vital sign, a pathology code, a procedural code, an evaluation code, and a prescription for the patient;
said scheduling data includes at least one of a time, a date, and a location for scheduling the patient and the at least one of a clinician, a staff member, and equipment;
said patient data includes at least one of a name, a digital photograph, an address, a date of birth, an age, a social security number, and a sex of the patient; and
said financial data includes at least one of account information, account balances, insurance claims, and patient transactions.
65 . The integrated medical system of claim 63 , further comprising a set of standard reports with pre-defined filter and sort options from which the user chooses to define the filter and sort options used to generate the custom reports.
66 . The integrated medical system of claim 65 , wherein the standard reports display at least one of
patient data that includes at least one of a name, a photograph, an address, a date of birth, an age, a social security number, and a sex for a plurality of patients; and
scheduling data that includes at least one of an appointment history for at least one patient and a daily schedule for the at least one of a clinician, a staff member, and equipment.
67 . The integrated medical system of claim 65 , wherein the standard reports display
financial data that includes at least one of account information, collection balances, aging account summaries, insurance claims, claims analyses, delinquent accounts, balance tracking, and transaction details for a plurality of patients; and
patient data that includes at least one of a name, a photograph, an address, a date of birth, an age, a social security number, and a sex of each of the plurality of patients.
68 . The integrated medical system of claim 65 , wherein the standard reports display clinical data that includes at least one of procedure code totals and referral information for a plurality of healthcare providers
69 . The integrated medical system of claim 65 , wherein the standard reports display a log that identifies any clinician or staff member who at least one of accessed or disclosed at least one of a patient's clinical data, scheduling data, patient data, and financial data.
70 . The integrated medical system of claim 63 , further comprising an export function for exporting the custom reports in at least one of an electronic word processor format and an electronic spreadsheet format.
71 . The integrated medical system of claim 63 , wherein the custom reports are generated in the system background while the user performs other tasks with the system and the user is given notice via an electronic message when the custom reports are complete.
72 . The integrated medical system of claim 63 , wherein the system is configured to automatically generate custom reports at least one of daily, weekly, monthly, and annually.
73 . The integrated medical system of claim 63 , wherein at least one of the financial data, the scheduling data, the clinical data, and the patient data is filtered and sorted by at least one of healthcare provider, insurance company, insurance plan, billable provider, and patient.
74 . A method for generating custom reports with an integrated medical software system, said method being embodied on a processor-executable medium and said integrated medical software system having a processor that executes the method to perform the steps of:
providing functionality for a user of the system to create an electronic document prior to an encounter with a patient;
scheduling the patient and at least one of a clinician, a staff member, and equipment for the encounter with the patient using scheduling data and patient data;
pre-populating the electronic document with at least a portion of the patient data;
capturing the scheduling data in the normalized data format when the encounter with the patient is scheduled;
capturing clinical data for the patient in the electronic document in a normalized data format during the encounter with the patient;
creating at least one of a bill, a claim, or a statement for the patient using financial data and the clinical data;
capturing the financial data in the normalized data format when the at least one of a bill, a claim, or a statement is created;
storing the scheduling data, the patient data, the clinical data, and the financial data in a database in the normalized data format as that data is captured;
using multiple filter and sort options that are defined by the user to generate custom reports that display the clinical data, the scheduling data, the patient data, and the financial data in various customized combinations according to the filter and sort options that are chosen to generate the custom reports; and
saving the filter and sort options chosen to generate a custom report for future use in generating other custom reports,
wherein the system is built on a common architecture to support an exchange of the clinical data, the scheduling data, the patient data, and the financial data in the normalized data format as required to perform each of the steps.
75 . The method of claim 74 , wherein
said scheduling data includes at least one of a time, a date, and a location for scheduling the patient and the at least one of a clinician, a staff member, and equipment;
said patient data includes at least one of a name, a photograph, an address, a date of birth, an age, a social security number, and a sex of the patient;
said clinical data includes at least one of a reason for visit, referral information, a presenting symptom, a vital sign, a pathology code, a procedural code, an evaluation code, and a prescription for the patient; and
said financial data includes at least one of account information, account balances, insurance claims, and patient transactions.
76 . The method of claim 74 , further comprising the step of choosing from standard reports with pre-defined filter and sort options to define the filter and sort options used to generate the custom reports.
77 . The method of claim 76 , wherein the standard reports display at least one of
patient data that includes at least one of a name, a photograph, an address, a date of birth, an age, a social security number, and a sex for a plurality of patients; and
scheduling data that includes at least one of an appointment history for at least one patient and a daily schedule for the at least one of a clinician, a staff member, and equipment.
78 . The method of claim 76 , wherein the standard reports display
financial data that includes at least one of account information, collection balances, aging account summaries, insurance claims, claims analyses, delinquent accounts, balance tracking, and transaction details for a plurality of patients; and
patient data that includes at least one of a name, a photograph, an address, a date of birth, an age, a social security number, and a sex of each of the plurality of patients.
79 . The method of claim 76 , wherein the standard reports display clinical data that includes at least one of procedure code totals and referral information for a plurality of healthcare providers
80 . The method of claim 76 , wherein the standard reports display a log that identifies any clinician or staff member who at least one of accessed or disclosed at least one of a patient's clinical data, scheduling data, patient data, and financial data.
81 . The method of claim 74 , further comprising the step of exporting the custom reports in at least one of an electronic word processor format and an electronic spreadsheet format.
82 . The method of claim 74 , wherein the custom reports are generated in the system background while the user performs other tasks with the system and the user is given notice via an electronic message when the custom reports are complete.
83 . The method of claim 74 , wherein the system is configured to automatically generate custom reports at least one of daily, weekly, monthly, and annually.
84 . The method of claim 74 , wherein at least one of the financial data, the scheduling data, the clinical data, and the patient data is filtered and sorted by at least one of healthcare provider, insurance company, insurance plan, billable provider, and patient.
