Abstract

Methods and systems consistent with the present invention provide an improved software development tool that debugs a distributed computing component. The improved software development tool can run one or more distributed computing components in a debug mode in accordance with debug commands using methods and systems consistent with the present invention.

Claims (29)

1 . A method in a data processing system comprising:

initiating execution of a software development tool;

receiving an indication to run a distributed computing component in a debug mode during execution of the software development tool; and

running the distributed computing component in the debug mode after receiving the indication.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication to run the distributed computing component in the debug mode comprises determining that an operational mode of the distributed computing component is in the debug mode.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication to run the distributed computing component comprises receiving a debug request.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the indication to run the distributed computing component includes an identification of the distributed computing component.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising attaching a debugger module to a command port of a target application server.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising

receiving a debug command; and

controlling the running the distributed computing component in the debug mode using the debug command.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a result from the running the distributed computing component in the debug mode.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving another indication to run another distributed computing component in another debug mode; and

running the another distributed computing component in another debug mode.

9 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

receiving a first debug command;

receiving a second debug command;

controlling the running the distributed computing component in the debug mode using the first debug command; and

controlling the running the another distributed computing component in another debug mode using the second debug command.

10 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

displaying a first result from the running the distributed computing component in the debug mode; and

displaying a second result from the running the another distributed computing component in another debug mode.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the running the another distributed computing component invokes a process associated with the distributed computing component.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the first result and the second result reflect an invocation of the process.

13 . A computer-readable medium including instructions for a data processing system to execute a method, the method comprising:

initiating execution of a software development tool;

receiving an indication to run a distributed computing component in a debug mode during execution of the software development tool; and

running the distributed computing component in the debug mode after receiving the indication.
