Abstract

Mesenchymal stem cells which express TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of at least 13 pg/10 6 cells. Such mesenchymal stem cells inhibit the proliferation of lymphocytes and may be employed, in particular, in the treatment of graft-versus-host disease.

Claims (14)

1 . A composition comprising mesenchymal stem cells wherein said mesenchymal stem cells express TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of from about 13 pg/10 6 cells to about 60 pg/10 6 cells.

2 . A composition comprising mesenchymal stem cells wherein said mesenchymal stem cells are a selected population of mesenchymal stem cells that expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of from about 13 pg/10 6 cells to about 60 pg/10 6 cells.

3 . The composition of claim 2 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of from about 13 pg/10 6 cells to about 50 pg/10 6 cells.

4 . The composition of claim 3 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of from about 13 pg/10 6 cells to about 25 pg/10 6 cells.

5 . The composition of claim 2 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been subjected to cryopreservation and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of about 19 pg/10 6 cells to about 25 pg/10 6 .

The composition of claim 5 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been subjected to cryopreservation at a temperature of from about negative 80° to about negative 70° Celsius and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of about 19 pg/10 6 cells to about 25 pg/10 6 .

The composition of claim 6 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been subjected to cryopreservation at a temperature of about negative 70° Celsius and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of about 25 pg/10 6 cells.

The composition of claim 6 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been subjected to cryopreservation at a temperature of about negative 80° Celsius and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of about 19 pg/10 6 cells.

9 . The composition of claim 2 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been stored at room temperature and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of from about 13 pg/10 6 cells to about 60 pg/10 6 .

The composition of claim 9 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been stored at room temperature for from about 6 to about 32 hours and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of from about 13 pg/10 6 cells to about 60 pg/10 6 .

11 . The composition of claim 10 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been stored at room temperature for about 32 hours and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of about 13 pg/10 6 cells.

12 . The composition of claim 10 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been stored at room temperature for about 24 hours and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of about 20 pg/10 6 cells.

13 . The composition of claim 10 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been stored at room temperature for about 8 hours and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of about 60 pg/10 6 cells.

14 . The composition of claim 10 wherein the selected population of mesenchymal stem cells has been stored at room temperature for about 6 hours and wherein said selected population of mesenchymal stem cells expresses TNF-α receptor Type I in an amount of about 50 pg/10 6 cells.
