Abstract

In certain embodiments, a vial adaptor for removing liquid contents from a vial comprises a piercing member and a bag. The bag can be contained within the piercing member such that the bag is introduced to the vial when the vial adaptor is coupled with the vial. In some embodiments, the bag expands within the vial as liquid is removed from the vial via the adaptor, thereby regulating pressure within the vial. In other embodiments, a vial comprises a bag for regulating pressure within the vial as liquid is removed therefrom. In some embodiments, a vial adaptor is coupled with the vial in order to remove the liquid. In some embodiments, as the liquid is removed from the vial via the adaptor, the bag expands within the vial, and in other embodiments, the bag contracts within the vial.

Claims (14)

1. A container for a medical fluid, the container comprising:

a vessel comprising a space and a vent, the space containing the medical fluid;

a lumen extending into a proximal end of the vessel and in communication with the space, the lumen configured for the medical fluid to flow therethrough;

a bag disposed at least partly in the space and having a chamber in communication with the vent, the bag configured to change volume as a portion of the medical fluid flows through the lumen; and

a barrier configured to inhibit contaminants from entering the chamber through the vent;

wherein the vent is configured to permit a regulating fluid to flow between the chamber and ambient, the regulating fluid compensating for the change in volume of the medical fluid in the space.

2. The container of claim 1 , wherein the barrier comprises a filter or a screen.

3. The container of claim 1 , wherein the vessel comprises a medicinal vial.

4. The container of claim 1 , wherein the bag comprises a balloon.

5. The container of claim 1 , further comprising a cap connector configured to mate with a proximal end of the vessel and to inhibit removal of the cap connector therefrom.

6. The container of claim 5 , wherein the lumen is coupled with the cap connector.

7. The container of claim 1 , wherein the total volume of medical fluid and regulating fluid in the vessel is substantially constant.

8. The container of claim 1 , wherein the barrier is configured to inhibit contaminants from entering the chamber while permitting the regulating fluid to flow through the barrier.

9. The container of claim 1 , wherein the regulating fluid comprises ambient air that flows freely through the vent and the barrier.
