Abstract

A multi-surface sponge product includes a foraminous portion adhered to an abrasive portion to form a unitary product, each portion and the resulting product having a pair of sidewalls and in cross-section or side elevation having the form of a parallelogram. The sidewalls form gripping areas and the angled forward and reward end opposite ends of the parallelogram shaped body form wedges. The multi-surface body is low profile and various edges and corners thereof enable the foraminous and abrasive portions to be selectively used to engage corners of many differently configured surfaces to be cleaned, to either scrub the surface or simply clean or absorb fluid, depending on which portion of the product is emplaced in the edge or in a corner.

Claims (9)

1. A method of forming and using a sponge to clean a work surface, the method comprising the steps of:

providing a foraminous body layer of material having an upper surface and a lower surface;

providing an abrasive layer of material having an upper surface and a lower surface;

joining only the lower surface of the abrasive layer to only the upper surface of the foraminous body layer to form a unitary sponge body having one upper abrasive material layer and one lower foraminous body material layer; wherein the unitary sponge body includes a front wall having a foraminous body material layer and an abrasive material layer, a rear wall spaced apart from the front wall having a foraminous body material layer and an abrasive material layer, a first sidewall adjacent the front wall having a foraminous body material layer and an abrasive material layer and a second sidewall spaced apart from the first sidewall having a foraminous body material layer and an abrasive material layer, wherein at least one of the front wall, rear wall, first sidewall or second sidewall is inclined to form an acute angle with the abrasive material layer upper surface along a working edge; and

applying a first force to the sponge body displaces the working edge towards an adjacent work surface.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the step of forming the sponge body further includes the step of forming a second working edge having an acute angle in the foraminous body layer lower surface that is opposite the first working edge.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the first working edge acute angle is 30 degrees and the second working edge acute angle is 30 degrees.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the sponge body shape is rhomboidal.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the sponge body shape is a quadrilateral.
