A digital image of the object is captured and the object is recognized from plurality of objects in a database. An information address corresponding to the object is then used to access information and initiate communication pertinent to the object.

Claims (32)

1. An object recognition system comprising:

a terminal device having a sensor capable of acquiring a digital representation of a scene containing at least a portion of an object; and

an object identification server coupled with the terminal device and configured to obtain the digital representation, identify the at least a portion of the object as a target object through a comparison of features of the digital representation to a plurality of known objects stored in an object database, determine attributes of the target object based on the comparison, and cause content information pertinent to the target object to be sent to the terminal device based at least in part on the attributes.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the target object comprises a specific target object where at least some of the plurality of known objects comprises similar appearances.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the specific target object differs from the at least some of the plurality of known objects by an identifiable mark.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the identifiable mark comprises a bar code.

5. The system of claim 3 , wherein the identifiable mark comprises a number.

6. The system of claim 3 , wherein the identifiable mark is on the object.

7. The system of claim 3 , wherein the attributes comprise decoded information from the identifiable mark.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise a shape.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise an information address.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise an identity.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the attributes comprise at least one of the following: an object name, a number, and a classification.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise a position.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the position comprises a location with respect to the terminal device.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise a shape.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise an orientation.

16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise a size.

17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise a color.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise a status.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the attributes comprise a decoded symbol.

20. The system of claim 1 , wherein the terminal device comprises the object identification server.

21. The system of claim 1 , wherein the terminal device comprises a mobile device.

22. The system of claim 21 , wherein the mobile device comprises a cell phone.

23. The system of claim 1 , wherein the digital representation comprises an imagery data.

24. The system of claim 23 , wherein the imagery data comprises multiple images.

25. The system of claim 1 , wherein the digital representation comprises video data.

26. The system of claim 1 , wherein the digital representation comprises spectral frequency components.

27. The system of claim 1 , wherein the digital representation comprises spatial frequency components.

28. The system of claim 1 , wherein the digital representation comprises symbolic content.

29. The system of claim 1 , wherein the content information is provided by a content server via a network.

30. The system of claim 1 , wherein the content information comprises at least one the following: audio data, video data, graphics data, and text data.
