Abstract

Establishing a multimodal advertising personality for a sponsor of a multimodal application, including associating one or more vocal demeanors with a sponsor of a multimodal application and presenting a speech portion of the multimodal application for the sponsor using at least one of the vocal demeanors associated with the sponsor.

Claims (47)

1. A method of operating a multimodal application, the method comprising:

selecting, using a processor, a demeanor for presentation of content of a content provider via the multimodal application to a user, the demeanor representing a style for presentation of the content, wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering, by the processor, a factor selected from the group consisting of: a time of day at which the content is to be provided; a location at which the content is to be provided; and an application domain of the multimodal application; and

presenting the content to the user using the demeanor.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the demeanor further comprises considering a characteristic of the user of the multimodal application to whom the content is to be provided.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the characteristic of the user is gender.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the characteristic of the user is a user status as a repeat user.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the location at which the content is to be provided.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the time of day at which the content is to be provided to the user.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises selecting the demeanor in compliance with rules established by the content provider.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the demeanor is a vocal demeanor.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the demeanor is a visual demeanor.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising associating the demeanor with the content provider.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein associating the demeanor with the content provider comprises associating a set of demeanors with the content provider, and wherein selecting the demeanor comprises selecting the demeanor from the set of demeanors.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the demeanor persists only for a current logon session of the multimodal application.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the application domain of the multimodal application.

14. A system, comprising:

a processor; and

a computer recordable medium operatively coupled to the processor, the computer recordable medium storing computer program instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform a method comprising:

selecting a demeanor for presentation of content of a content provider via a multimodal application to a user, the demeanor representing a style for presentation of the content, wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering, by the processor, a factor selected from the group consisting of: a time of day at which the content is to be provided; a location at which the content is to be provided; and an application domain of the multimodal application; and

presenting the content to the user using the demeanor.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein selecting the demeanor further comprises considering a characteristic of the user of the multimodal application to whom the content is to be provided.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the characteristic of the user is gender.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the characteristic of the user is a user status as a repeat user.

18. The system of claim 14 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the location at which the content is to be provided.

19. The system of claim 14 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the time of day at which the content is to be provided to the user.

20. The system of claim 14 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises selecting the demeanor in compliance with rules established by the content provider.

21. The system of claim 14 , wherein the demeanor is a vocal demeanor.

22. The system of claim 14 , wherein the demeanor is a visual demeanor.

23. The system of claim 14 , wherein the method further comprises associating the demeanor with the content provider.

24. The system of claim 23 , wherein associating the demeanor with the content provider comprises associating a set of demeanors with the content provider, and wherein selecting the demeanor comprises selecting the demeanor from the set of demeanors.

25. The system of claim 14 , wherein the demeanor persists only for a current logon session of the multimodal application.

26. The system of claim 14 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the application domain of the multimodal application.

27. A computer recordable device comprising computer program instructions which, when executed, cause performance of a method comprising:

selecting a demeanor for presentation of content of a content provider via a multimodal application to a user, the demeanor representing a style for presentation of the content, wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering a factor selected from the group consisting of: a time of day at which the content is to be provided; a location at which the content is to be provided; and an application domain of the multimodal application; and

presenting the content to the user using the demeanor.

28. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein selecting the demeanor further comprises considering a characteristic of the user of the multimodal application to whom the content is to be provided.

29. The computer recordable device of claim 28 , wherein the characteristic of the user is gender.

30. The computer recordable device of claim 28 , wherein the characteristic of the user is a user status as a repeat user.

31. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the location at which the content is to be provided.

32. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the time of day at which the content is to be provided to the user.

33. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises selecting the demeanor in compliance with rules established by the content provider.

34. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein the demeanor is a vocal demeanor.

35. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein the demeanor is a visual demeanor.

36. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein the method further comprises associating the demeanor with the content provider.

37. The computer recordable device of claim 36 , wherein associating the demeanor with the content provider comprises associating a set of demeanors with the content provider, and wherein selecting the demeanor comprises selecting the demeanor from the set of demeanors.

38. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein the demeanor persists only for a current logon session of the multimodal application.

39. The computer recordable device of claim 27 , wherein selecting the demeanor comprises considering the application domain of the multimodal application.
