Dual-radio gaming headset
View Patent ↗A gaming machine having an audio channel outputting game sound and an audio channel intaking microphone sound and outputting chat sound is coupled with a headset having earpieces and a microphone and a Bluetooth transceiver in the headset for sending and receiving the microphone and chat sounds. A radio receiver or wired connection in the headset receives the game sounds. Circuitry in the headset is connected between the transceiver and receiver for mixing the microphone, chat, and game sounds and feeding them all to the earpieces.
1. A headset arrangement for use with a gaming machine having an audio channel outputting game sound and an audio channel in-taking microphone sound and outputting chat sound via a port on the machine, the headset arrangement comprising:
a headset comprising two earpieces and a microphone;
a first Bluetooth transceiver in the headset operable to send the microphone sound and receive the chat sound, the first Bluetooth transceiver comprising a first radio receiver;
a second radio receiver in the headset for receiving the game sound;
a signal processor in the headset operably connected to the first Bluetooth transceiver and the second radio receiver, the signal processor being operable to mix the microphone, chat, and game sounds and feed the result to the earpieces; and
an adapter coupled to a game controller and comprising a second Bluetooth transceiver operable to transmit the chat sound and to receive the microphone sound, wherein the game controller is in communication with a game console that provides the chat sound.
2. The headset arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the first Bluetooth transceiver is capable of multipairing, the headset comprising:
a switch operable to select either the microphone and chat sounds or a second sound source.
3. The headset arrangement of claim 2 , wherein the switch is on the headset.
4. The headset arrangement of claim 1 , comprising a control on the headset for balancing the game sound against the chat and microphone sounds.
5. A multichannel headset, the multichannel headset comprising:
at least one speaker;
a first receiver operable to receive a first signal that is encoded by a first digital protocol and transmitted over a first wireless channel from a video game controller;
a second receiver operable to receive a second signal that is encoded by a second digital protocol and transmitted over a second wireless channel from an adapter that is coupled to a video game controller, the video game controller being in communication with a video game console that provides at least a portion of content in the second signal;
a microphone operable to produce a third signal, wherein the third signal is sent at least in part to the video game controller, through the adapter; and
a signal processor operable to combine the first signal, the second signal and the third signal as an input to the at least one speaker.
6. The multichannel headset of claim 5 , wherein the first digital protocol is Bluetooth.
7. The multichannel headset of claim 5 , wherein the first receiver is operable to receive a fourth signal.
8. The multichannel headset of claim 7 , wherein the signal processor is operable to select between the first signal and the fourth signal.
9. The multichannel headset of claim 7 , wherein the signal processor is operable to combine the second signal, the third signal and the fourth signal as an input to the at least one speaker.
10. The multichannel headset of claim 7 , wherein the fourth signal is a Bluetooth encoded audio signal.
11. The multichannel headset of claim 7 , wherein the fourth signal is received from a phone.
12. The multichannel headset of claim 7 , wherein the fourth signal is received from a music device.
13. The multichannel headset of claim 5 , wherein the multichannel headset comprises a volume control operable to adjust the first wireless channel and the second wireless channel.
14. A headset, the headset comprising:
at least one speaker;
a first receiver operable to receive a first signal that is encoded by a digital protocol and transmitted over a wireless channel from a video game controller;
a port operable to receive a second signal from an adapter that is coupled to a video game controller, the video game controller being in communication with a video game console that provides at least a portion of content in the second signal;
a microphone operable to produce a third signal, wherein the third signal is sent at least in part to the video game controller, through the adapter; and
a signal processor operable to combine the first signal, the second signal and the third signal as an input to the at least one speaker.
15. The headset of claim 14 , wherein the digital protocol is Bluetooth.
16. The headset of claim 14 , wherein the port is wired to a video game controller.
17. The headset of claim 14 , wherein the port provides power to the headset.
18. The headset of claim 14 , wherein the signal processor is operable to combine the second signal with a phone call.
19. The headset of claim 14 , wherein the signal processor is operable to combine the second signal with a music input.
20. The headset of claim 14 , wherein the headset comprises a volume control operable to balance the wireless channel and the second signal.
