Abstract

An apparatus for capture of CO 2 from the atmosphere comprising an anion exchange material formed in a matrix exposed to a flow of the air.

Claims (12)

1. A method for removing CO 2 from ambient air comprising the steps of passing ambient air in contact with a solid capture material comprising an amine; capturing CO 2 from the ambient air directly on said solid capture material; treating said solid capture material to remove and concentrate captured CO 2 ; and converting said captured CO 2 to a useful product.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said solid capture material is an anion exchange material.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein said anion exchange material is coated on an inert substrate material.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said treating comprises treatment with a liquid.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said liquid comprises a sorbent chemical.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said solid capture material is formed as a honeycomb or mesh.

7. A method for removing CO 2 from ambient air comprising the steps of passing ambient air in contact with a solid capture material comprising an amine; capturing CO 2 from the ambient air directly on said solid capture material; treating said solid capture material to remove and concentrate captured CO 2 ; and using said captured CO 2 for enhanced oil recovery.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein said solid capture material is an anion exchange material.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein said anion exchange material is coated on an inert substrate material.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein said treating comprises treatment with a liquid.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein said liquid comprises a sorbent chemical.

12. The method of claim 7 , wherein said solid capture material is formed as a honeycomb or mesh.
