Abstract

The pillow includes upper and lower substantially identical fabric sections, each having a peripheral edge with a gusset extending therebetween. A zipper assembly includes a gusset zipper portion and a pillow zipper portion which extends around substantially the entire periphery of the pillow from the end of the gusset zipper portion to a terminating point just before the end of the gusset zipper portion.

Claims (16)

1. An expandable pillow, comprising:

an upper fabric section having a peripheral edge;

a lower fabric section having a peripheral edge;

a gusset section joining the upper and lower fabric sections around the peripheral edges thereof; and

a zipper assembly, comprising a gusset zipper portion, a peripheral edge zipper portion, and a slider member, wherein the gusset zipper portion extends from a selected start point along one side of the pillow and extends a selected distance to the peripheral edges of the upper and lower fabric sections, the peripheral edge zipper portion extending from a distal end of the gusset zipper portion around the peripheries of the upper and lower fabric sections, joining the peripheral edges thereof together, and terminating at a point just before a start point of the peripheral edge zipper portion, wherein the pillow is in a gusseted configuration when the zipper assembly is open and in a conventional configuration, with the peripheral edges of the upper and lower fabric sections joined together, when the zipper assembly is closed.

2. The expandable pillow of claim 1 , wherein the gusset zipper portion extends from a seam approximately midway of a lateral edge of the pillow to an adjacent corner of the pillow, wherein the upper and lower fabric sections are joined at their peripheral edges initially at said corner, and then continue around the pillow until a point just before said corner.

3. The expandable pillow of claim 1 , wherein the pillow is substantially rectangular and the gusset is approximately two inches high.

4. The expandable pillow of claim 1 , including a closeable opening between one of the upper and lower fabric sections and the gusset for insertion of fill, the fill being natural fill or polyester or a combination thereof.

5. The expandable pillow of claim 2 , wherein the zipper assembly is so arranged and the gusset is so configured, that when the pillow is zipped from one lateral side to a selected point on an opposing lateral side, the pillow has a wedge configuration.

6. The expandable pillow of claim 1 , includes first and second outer fabric sections secured to the upper and lower fabric sections around the peripheries thereof and fill between the upper and lower fabric sections, respectively and the first and second outer fabric sections.

7. An expandable pillow, comprising:

an upper fabric section having a peripheral edge;

a lower fabric section having a peripheral edge, the upper and lower fabric sections being substantially identical in size and configuration;

a gusset which extends between the peripheral edges of the upper and lower fabric sections; and

a zipper assembly which extends from a selected point along one side of the pillow and is arranged to gradually draw the peripheral edges of the upper and lower fabric sections toward each other, until they come together at a joining point, the zipper assembly being further arranged to join said peripheral edges from the joining point further in one direction around the periphery of the pillow to a terminating point past the selected point, just before the joining point, thus extending the joining of the peripheral edges of the upper and lower fabric sections by the single zipper assembly around at least almost the entire periphery of the pillow, wherein the pillow is in a gusseted configuration when the zipper assembly is open and in a conventional configuration, with the peripheral edges of the upper and lower fabric sections joined together, when the zipper assembly is closed.

8. The zipper assembly of claim 7 , wherein the joining point is a corner of the pillow.
