Abstract

An approach is presented for handling incoming status messages with respect to a request and/or a communication channel (e.g., PSMS). A PSMS client causes, at least in part, a transmission of a request over a communication channel, the request originating from an application associated with a device. A status message client of the PSMS client causes, at least in part, a monitoring of one or more inboxes associated with the communication channel for one or more status messages related to the communication channel, the request, or a combination thereof. The status message client causes, at least in part, a presentation of a representation of at least a portion of the one or more status messages, status information interpreted from the one or more status messages, or a combination thereof in a user interface of the application.

Claims (41)

1. A method comprising:

transmitting a request over a communication channel, the request originating from an application associated with a device, the request being of a particular communication type;

monitoring at the device of one or more inboxes associated with the communication channel for one or more status messages related to the communication channel, the request, or a combination thereof, wherein the one or more status messages are from a status message server of an operator network and the one or more status messages are not of the particular communication type; and

presenting a representation of at least a portion of the one or more status messages, status information interpreted from the one or more status messages, or a combination thereof in a user interface of the application,

wherein the status message server adds fields to certain sent messages and extracts fields from certain received messages to present the status information to the user.

2. A method of claim 1 , wherein the request is related to payment information associated with the communication channel.

3. A method of claim 2 , wherein the communication channel includes, at least in part, a premium messaging service as a form of payment.

A method of claim 2 , wherein the one or more status messages, the status information, or a combination thereof relate, at least in part, to an availability of the premium messaging service over the communication channel, one or more confirmation requests to use the premium messaging service, one or more authentication requests to use the premium message service, or a combination thereof.

5. A method of claim 1 , further comprising:

processing of the one or more status messages to cause, at least in part, a comparison against at least one database of one or more other previously processed status messages to determine the status information.

6. A method of claim 5 ,

wherein one or more operators are associated with the one or more status messages, the one or more other previously processed status messages, the status information, the communication channel, or a combination thereof, and

wherein the comparison, the at least one database, or a combination thereof is based, at least in part, on the one or more operators.

7. A method of claim 1 , further comprising:

processing of the one or more status messages using, at least in part, a semantic analysis to determine the status information.

8. A method of claim 1 , further comprising:

a generation of a prompt for one or more user actions based, at least in part, on the one or more status messages.

9. A method of claim 8 , wherein the one or more user actions include, at least in part, making the communication channel available, fulfilling one or more requirements for confirming access to the communication channel, or a combination thereof.

10. A method of claim 1 , wherein the monitoring occurs until a substantial completion of the request, an expiration of a predetermined time period, or a combination thereof.

11. An apparatus comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs,

the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following,

cause, at least in part, a transmission of a request over a communication channel, the request originating from an application associated with a device, the request being of a particular communication type;

cause, at least in part, a monitoring at the device of one or more inboxes associated with the communication channel for one or more status messages related to the communication channel, the request, or a combination thereof, wherein the one or more status messages are from a status message server of an operator network and the one or more status messages are not of the particular communication type; and

cause, at least in part, a presentation of a representation of at least a portion of the one or more status messages, status information interpreted from the one or more status messages, or a combination thereof in a user interface of the application,

wherein the status message server adds fields to certain sent messages and extracts fields from certain received messages to present the status information to the user.

12. An apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the request is related to payment information associated with the communication channel.

13. An apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the communication channel includes, at least in part, a premium messaging service as a form of payment.

An apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the one or more status messages, the status information, or a combination thereof relate, at least in part, to an availability of the premium messaging service over the communication channel, one or more confirmation requests to use the premium messaging service, one or more authentication requests to use the premium message service, or a combination thereof.

15. An apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:

process and/or facilitate a processing of the one or more status messages to cause, at least in part, a comparison against at least one database of one or more other previously processed status messages to determine the status information.

16. An apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:

determine one or more operators associated with the one or more status messages, the one or more other previously processed status messages, the status information, the communication channel, or a combination thereof,

wherein the comparison, the at least one database, or a combination thereof is based, at least in part, on the one or more operators.

17. An apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:

process and/or facilitate a processing of the one or more status messages using, at least in part, a semantic analysis to determine the status information.

18. An apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the apparatus is further caused to:

cause, at least in part, a generation of a prompt for one or more user actions based, at least in part, on the one or more status messages.

19. An apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the one or more user actions include, at least in part, making the communication channel available, fulfilling one or more requirements for confirming access to the communication channel, or a combination thereof.

20. An apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the monitoring occurs until a substantial completion of the request, an expiration of a predetermined time period, or a combination thereof.
