Abstract

Storage systems and methods of use of the same are disclosed. The storage systems are configured to be connected to wall structures and to be modular in construction, so as to be able to use a plurality of horizontally disposed hang rails and/or a plurality of vertical standards, and/or modular storage components that are received on a hang rail or a vertical standard, or that may be connected directly to a wall structure.

Claims (27)

1. An apparatus for connecting a horizontally disposed hang rail to a vertically disposed standard having a plurality of slots therein, the apparatus comprising:

an adapter having an adapter bracket and a locking element;

the adapter bracket having a forward opening that releasably receives a horizontally disposed hang rail and a rearward extension that is releasably engagable with a vertically disposed standard; and

the locking element movably connected to the adapter bracket and being movable between an unlocked position wherein a horizontally disposed hang rail is movable into and out of the forward opening of the adapter bracket and a locked position wherein a horizontally disposed hang rail is received in the forward opening and is connected to the adapter bracket.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the adapter bracket includes at least a pair of horizontally spaced sidewalls that extend rearwardly.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein at least one intermediate wall connects the spaced sidewalls.

4. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the adapter bracket intermediate wall further comprises at least one upper portion and at least one lower portion.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the at least one upper portion of the intermediate wall is configured to block forward displacement of an upper portion of a hang rail relative to the adapter bracket.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the locking element further comprises an upward extending portion configured to permit forward displacement of a hang rail relative to the adapter bracket when the locking element is in the unlocked position and to prohibit forward displacement of a hang rail when the locking element is in the locked position.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the locking element further comprises at least one rearward extending projection that permits upward movement of the adapter relative to a vertical standard with which the adapter is engaged when the locking element is in the unlocked position and prohibits upward movement of the adapter relative to the vertical standard when the locking element is in the locked position.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein when the adapter is engaged with the vertical standard, the at least one rearward extending projection of the locking element is disposed in a slot of the vertical standard and is movable to permit upward movement of the adapter relative to the vertical standard when the locking element is in the unlocked position and to block upward movement of the adapter relative to the vertical standard when the locking element is in the locked position.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the adapter bracket further comprises a first holding portion that engages a second holding portion on the locking element when the locking element is moved to the locked position.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the locking element is slidably movable between the unlocked position and the locked position.

11. An apparatus for connecting a horizontally disposed hang rail to a vertically disposed standard having a plurality of slots therein, the apparatus comprising:

an adapter having an adapter bracket and a locking element;

the adapter bracket comprising a pair of horizontally spaced sidewalls that extend rearwardly and are connected to at least one intermediate wall;

the horizontally spaced sidewalls comprising a forward facing opening configured to receive a horizontally disposed hang rail, and at least one rearward facing extension configured to engage a slot in a vertically disposed standard;

the locking element comprising a body portion, at least one rearward extending projection configured to engage a slot in a vertically disposed standard and being movably engageable with the adapter bracket.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein at least one sidewall of the adapter bracket includes at least one aperture and the locking element includes at least one laterally extending projection engageable with the at least one aperture.

13. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the at least one intermediate wall that connects the pair of spaced sidewalls is configured to block forward displacement of a portion of a hang rail.

14. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the adapter bracket intermediate wall further comprises at least one upper portion and at least one lower portion.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the at least one upper portion of the intermediate wall is configured to block forward displacement of an upper portion of a hang rail relative to the adapter bracket.

16. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the locking element is movable between an unlocked position and a locked position.

17. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the locking element further comprises an upward extending portion configured to permit forward displacement of a hang rail relative to the adapter bracket when in the unlocked position and to block forward displacement of a hang rail when in the locked position.

18. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the locking element is configured to have the at least one rearward extending projection permit upward movement of the adapter bracket relative to the vertical standard when in the unlocked position and to block upward movement of the adapter bracket relative to the vertical standard when in the locked position.

19. The apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the adapter bracket further comprises a first holding portion and the locking element further comprises a second holding portion, and the first holding portion engages the second holding portion when the locking element is moved to the locked position.

20. The apparatus of claim 19 , wherein the first holding portion includes a groove and the second holding portion includes a detent adapted to be received in the groove when the locking element is moved to the locked position.
