Abstract

A method for manufacturing coated panels of the type including at least a substrate and a top layer with a motif, the top layer being provided on the substrate, the method may involve at least two steps. A first step may involve providing a synthetic material layer on the substrate. And a second subsequent step, may involve providing a relief on the surface of the synthetic material layer. The relief may include a pattern of recesses and/or projections. the pattern may be at least partially determined by one or more prints.

Claims (16)

1. A method for manufacturing coated panels of the type including at least a substrate and a top layer with a motif, the top layer being provided on the substrate, the method comprising:

providing a synthetic material layer on the substrate; and

after providing the synthetic material layer on the substrate, providing a relief on the surface of the synthetic material layer;

wherein the relief includes a pattern of at least one of recesses and projections;

wherein the relief is provided by a structure of a press element;

wherein the structure of the press element is formed in line with providing the relief in the synthetic material layer;

wherein the structure of the press element is formed by a printing technique that applies at least one print on the press element, such that the print is the structure of the press element that is used to provide the pattern of at least one of recesses and projections; and

wherein a first portion of the structure provides the relief in the synthetic material layer while a second portion of the structure is formed on the press element.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the press element is a belt, a cylinder, or a flat plate.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein forming the structure of the press element involves applying a print with wax or lacquer.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the printing technique is a digital technique.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the synthetic material layer substantially extends over the entire motif.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the substrate comprises a wood-based material.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the motif is obtained by performing, whether directly or indirectly, a print on the substrate.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the motif is printed by an inkjet printer.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the coated panels are floor panels.
