Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of transmitting and a method of receiving signals and corresponding apparatus. One aspect of the present invention relates to an efficient L 1 signaling method for an efficient transmitter and an efficient receiver using the efficient L 1 signaling method for an efficient cable broadcasting.

Claims (99)

1. A transmitter for transmitting broadcasting data to a receiver, the transmitter comprising:

a first processor configured to process Layer 1 signaling data for signaling service data; and

a second processor configured to process the service data,

wherein the first processor comprises:

a first BCH encoder configured to BCH encode the Layer 1 signaling data;

a first low-density parity-check (LDPC) encoder configured to LDPC encode the BCH-encoded Layer 1 signaling data to generate at least one LDPC parity bit;

a puncturing element configured to perform puncturing on the generated at least one LDPC parity bit;

a first bit interleaver configured to bit interleave the LDPC-encoded Layer 1 signaling data and the punctured at least one LDPC parity bit;

a first demultiplexer configured to demultiplex the bit-interleaved Layer 1 signaling data into cell words; and

a first QAM mapper configured to map the cell words into constellation values of the L 1 signaling data,

wherein the second processor comprises:

a second BCH encoder configured to BCH encode the service data to generate an error protected data;

a second LDPC encoder configured to LDPC encode the BCH-encoded service data;

a second bit interleaver configured to bit interleave the LDPC-encoded service data;

a second demultiplexer configured to demultiplex the bit-interleaved service data into cell words; and

a second QAM mapper configured to map the cell words into constellation values of the service data, and

wherein the Layer 1 signaling data have Program Specific Information (PSI) and Service Information (SI) reprocessing information for each physical path carrying the service data, the PSI/SI reprocessing information indicating whether a PSI/SI reprocessing has been performed.

2. The transmitter of claim 1 , wherein the second processor further comprises:

a time interleaver configured to time interleave the mapped constellation values of the service data.

3. The transmitter of claim 1 , wherein a size of a field for the PSI/SI reprocessing information is one bit.

4. The transmitter of claim 1 , further comprising:

a frame builder configured to build a frame, the frame including preamble symbols according to the mapped constellation values of the Layer 1 signaling data and at least one data slice having time interleaved service data,

wherein a Layer 1 block having the Layer 1 signaling data is repeated in one preamble symbol by a frequency domain.

5. The transmitter of claim 4 , further comprising:

a modulator configured to modulate the broadcasting data having the built frame by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) scheme.

6. A receiver for processing broadcasting data, the receiver comprising:

a first processor configured to process service data; and

a second processor configured to process Layer 1 signaling data for signaling the service data,

wherein the first processor comprises:

a first QAM demapper configured to demap constellation values of the service data into cell words;

a first multiplexer configured to multiplex the demapped cell words into the service data;

a first bit deinterleaver configured to bit deinterleave the multiplexed service data;

a first low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoder configured to LDPC decode the bit-deinterleaved service data; and

a first BCH decoder configured to BCH decode the LDPC-decoded service data;

wherein the second processor comprises:

a second QAM demapper configured to demap constellation values corresponding to the Layer 1 signaling data into cell words.

a second multiplexer configured to multiplex the demapped cell words into the Layer 1 signaling data;

a second bit deinterleaver configured to bit deinterleave the multiplexed Layer 1 signaling data and at least one LDPC parity bit;

a second de-puncturing element configured to perform de-puncturing on the at least one LDPC parity bit;

a second LDPC decoder configured to LDPC decode the Layer 1 signaling data and the de-punctured at least one LDPC parity bit; and

a second BCH decoder configured to BCH decode the LDPC-decoded Layer 1 signaling data and the de-punctured at least one LDPC parity bit,

wherein the Layer 1 signaling data have Program Specific Information (PSI) and Service Information (SI) reprocessing information for each physical path carrying the service data, the PSI/SI reprocessing information indicating whether a PSI/SI reprocessing has been performed.

7. The receiver of claim 6 , wherein the first processor further comprises:

a time deinterleaver configured to time deinterleave the constellation values corresponding to the service data.

8. The receiver of claim 6 , wherein a size of a field for the PSI/SI reprocessing information is one bit.

9. The receiver of claim 6 , further comprising:

a demodulator configured to demodulate the broadcasting data by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) scheme.

10. The receiver of claim 9 , further comprising:

a frame parser configured to parse a frame from the demodulated broadcasting data, wherein the frame includes preamble symbols including the Layer 1 signaling data and at least one data slice having the service data,

wherein a Layer 1 block having the Layer 1 signaling data is repeated in one preamble symbol by a frequency domain.

11. A method of transmitting broadcasting data to a receiver, the method comprising:

first processing Layer 1 signaling data for signaling service data; and

second processing the service data,

wherein the first processing comprises:

BCH encoding the Layer 1 signaling data;

low-density parity-check (LDPC) encoding the BCH-encoded Layer 1 signaling data to generate at least one LDPC parity bit;

performing puncturing on the generated at least one LDPC parity bit;

bit interleaving the LDPC-encoded Layer 1 signaling data and the punctured at least one LDPC parity bit; and

demultiplexing the bit-interleaved Layer 1 signaling data into cell words; and

mapping the cell words into constellation values by means of a QAM mapping method,

wherein the second processing comprises:

BCH encoding the service data to generate an error protected data;

LDPC encoding the BCH-encoded service data;

bit interleaving the LDPC-encoded service data;

demultiplexing the bit-interleaved service data into cell words; and

mapping the cell words into constellation values of the service data,

wherein the Layer 1 signaling data have Program Specific Information (PSI) and Service Information (SI) reprocessing information for each physical path carrying the service data, the PSI/SI reprocessing information indicating whether a PSI/SI reprocessing has been performed.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the second processing further comprises:

time interleaving the mapped constellation values of the service data.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein a size of a field for the PSI/SI reprocessing information is one bit.

14. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

building a frame including preamble symbols according to the mapped constellation values of the Layer 1 signaling data and the at least one data slice having the time interleaved PLP data, wherein a Layer 1 block having the Layer 1 signaling data is repeated in one preamble symbol by a frequency domain.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

modulating the broadcasting data having the built frame by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) scheme.

16. A method of receiving broadcasting data, the method comprising:

first processing service data; and

second processing Layer 1 signaling data for signaling the service data,

wherein the first processing comprises:

demapping constellation values of the service data into cell words;

multiplexing the demapped cell words into the service data;

bit deinterleaving the multiplexed service data;

LDPC decoding the bit-deinterleaved service data; and

BCH decoding the LDPC-decoded service data,

wherein the second processing comprises:

demapping constellation values corresponding to the Layer 1 signaling data into cell words;

multiplexing the demapped cell words into the Layer 1 signaling data;

bit deinterleaving the multiplexed Layer 1 signaling data and at least one LDPC parity bit;

performing de-puncturing on the at least one LDPC parity bit;

low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoding the Layer 1 signaling data and the de-punctured at least one LDPC parity bit; and

BCH decoding the LDPC-decoded Layer 1 signaling data and the de-punctured at least one LDPC parity bit,

wherein the Layer 1 signaling data include Program Specific Information (PSI) and Service Information (SI) reprocessing information for each physical path carrying the service data, the PSI/SI reprocessing information indicating whether a PSI/SI reprocessing has been performed.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the first processing further comprises:

time deinterleaving constellation values corresponding to the service data.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein a size of a field for the PSI/SI reprocessing information is one bit.

19. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

demodulating the broadcasting data by an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) scheme.

20. The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

parsing a frame from the demodulated broadcasting data, wherein the frame includes preamble symbols including the Layer 1 signaling data and at least one data slice having the service data,

wherein a Layer 1 block having the Layer 1 signaling data is repeated in one preamble symbol by a frequency domain.
