Abstract

The present invention relates to a layer structure having improved properties for laser engraving, to particular embodiments of said layer structures in the form of co-extrusion films, and to security documents, preferably identification documents having said layer structures.

Claims (30)

1. A layered structure comprising

a first layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic, and

a second layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive,

wherein the laser sensitive additive comprises a black pigment,

wherein the first layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic is essentially free of laser-sensitive additives,

wherein the second layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive has a layer thickness of from 5 to 30 μm, is transparent and is inscribable by laser engraving,

and the black pigment is present in an amount of from 40 to 180 ppm.

2. The layered structure according to claim 1 , wherein the black pigment comprises carbon black.

3. The layered structure according to claim 1 , wherein the first layer further comprises a white pigment as filler.

4. The layered structure according to claim 3 , wherein the white pigment comprises titanium dioxide, zirconium dioxide or barium sulfate.

5. The layered structure according to claim 3 , wherein the white pigment comprises titanium dioxide.

6. The layered structure according to claim 1 , wherein the thermoplastic plastic in either the first or second layer, independently of one another, is selected from the group consisting of polymers of ethylenically unsaturated monomers, polycondensation products of bifunctional reactive compounds, and mixtures thereof.

7. The layered structure according to claim 1 , wherein the thermoplastic plastic in either the first or second layer, independently of one another, is selected from the group consisting of polymers of one or more polycarbonate(s) or copolycarbonate(s) based on diphenols; poly- or copoly-acrylate(s); poly- or copoly-methacrylate(s); polymer(s) or copolymer(s) with styrene, polyurethane(s), and polyolefin(s); poly- or copoly-condensation product(s) of terephthalic acid; poly- or copoly-condensation products of naphthalenedicarboxylic acid; poly- or copoly-condensation product(s) of at least one cycloalkyldicarboxylic acid; polysulfones; and mixtures thereof.

8. The layered structure according to claim 1 , wherein the thermoplastic plastic, in either the first or second layer, independently of one another, is selected from the group consisting of polymers of one or more polycarbonate(s) or copolycarbonate(s) based on diphenols, and blends containing at least one polycarbonate or copolycarbonate.

9. The layered structure according to claim 1 , wherein the layers are produced by coextrusion.

10. The layered structure according to claim 1 , wherein the laser-sensitive additive is present in an amount of from 50 to 160 ppm in the second layer comprising at least one thermoplastic plastic and at least one laser-sensitive additive.

11. A security document comprising the layered structure according to claim 1 .

12. An identification document comprising the layered structure according to claim 1 .

13. A layered structure comprising

a first layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic, and

a second layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive, wherein the laser sensitive additive comprises a black pigment,

wherein the first layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic is essentially free of laser-sensitive additives,

wherein the second layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive has a layer thickness of from 5 to 30 μm, and the black pigment is present in an amount of from 40 to 180 ppm, and

wherein the layered structure comprises a further layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive, wherein the further layer has a layer thickness of from 5 to 30 μm, wherein the laser-sensitive additive is present in an amount of from 40 to 100 ppm, and wherein the first layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic is arranged between the second layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive and the further layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive.

14. The layered structure according to claim 13 , wherein the layers are produced by coextrusion.

15. A coextruded film comprising

a first layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and

a second layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive,

wherein the second layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive has a layer thickness of from 5 to 30 μm, is transparent and is inscribable by laser engraving, and wherein the laser-sensitive additive is present in an amount of from 40 to 180 ppm, wherein the film comprises a further layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive, wherein the second and the further layer, independently of one another, have a layer thickness of from 5 to 30 μm and comprise the laser-sensitive additive in an amount of from 40 to 180 ppm, and wherein the first layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic is arranged between the second and the further layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic and a laser-sensitive additive.

16. The coextruded film according to claim 15 , wherein the first layer comprising a thermoplastic plastic further comprises a white pigment as filler.
