Abstract

A method and system for providing a consistent flow documents and data content across different organizational units of a company or agency where the documents and data come from different enterprise systems and data stores but are related to linked processes that share models for organizing the content in the business context and in a format that enables a user to relate the content to the process step or steps they are performing. The system includes a network service that enables a configuration utility to automatically discover the objects and metadata and provides for a mapping of selected fields of the metadata to regions displayed in the user interface view with provision for filtering the data by mapping selected fields to a user input form. Thereby, a business analyst can create solutions without writing and maintaining complex program logic for each combination of presentation environment, enterprise system and data store.

Claims (50)

1 . A computer-implemented method for searching for data, comprising:

receiving at least one query;

identifying a search service provider interface of a search engine, wherein the search engine indexes data from a plurality of data based on a business content model; and

performing a search using the at least one keyword and the search service provider interface by:

performing the search by the search engine; and

managing expressions of the query that are managed by the search engine.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the expressions comprises at least one of (a) a summarization of extracted data or content, or (b) an identification of key terms or concepts within the summarization.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the search engine is at least one of a native search service or a federated search service.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the data based on a business content model represents a business object.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

extracting the data a from one or more external data management system using the system's service provider interface.

6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

indexing the data in a search index to optimize query expressions passed into the search service provider interface.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

storing concept-based views or facets of the data.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

building a concept-based view or facet of the data based on a result of the search; and

presenting the view or facet.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

presenting an expansion of a virtual folder to enhance usability of a result of the search in a context of a business scenario and role within a departmental process that are modeled in a virtual folder model.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

returning a result of the search under a security model.

11 . A system for searching for data, comprising a processor configured to perform actions that comprises:

receiving at least one query;

identifying a search service provider interface of a search engine, wherein the search engine indexes data from a plurality of data based on a business content model; and

performing a search using the at least one keyword and the search service provider interface by:

performing the search by the search engine; and

managing expressions of the query that are managed by the search engine.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the expressions comprises at least one of (a) a summarization of extracted data or content, or (b) an identification of key terms or concepts within the summarization.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the search engine is at least one of a native search service or a federated search service.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the actions further comprise:

building concept-based views or facets of the data from a result of the search; and

presenting the views.

15 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the actions further comprise:

building a concept-based view or facet of the data based on a result of the search; and

presenting the view or facet.

16 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the actions further comprise:

presenting an expansion of a virtual folder to enhance usability of a result of the search in a context of a business scenario and role within a departmental process that are modeled in a virtual folder model.

17 . A non-transitory processor readable medium for searching for data, the medium comprising instructions that when executed by a processor causes the processor to perform actions that comprise:

receiving at least one query;

identifying a search service provider interface of a search engine, wherein the search engine indexes data from a plurality of data based on a business content model; and

performing a search using the at least one keyword and the search service provider interface by:

performing the search by the search engine; and

managing expressions of the query that are managed by the search engine.

18 . The medium of claim 17 , wherein the expressions comprises at least one of (a) a summarization of extracted data or content, or (b) an identification of key terms or concepts within the summarization.

19 . The medium of claim 17 , wherein the actions further comprise:

building concept-based views or facets of the data from a result of the search; and

presenting the views.

20 . The medium of claim 17 , wherein the actions further comprise:

presenting an expansion of a virtual folder to enhance usability of a result of the search in a context of a business scenario and role within a departmental process that are modeled in a virtual folder model.
