SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR COLLABORATION
In some embodiments, the disclosed systems and methods provide a client-server infrastructure capable of supporting a variety of asynchronous and synchronous collaboration activities in a so-called collaboration place. Some of these activities include chatting, viewing and/or editing one or more data files, and sharing one or more applications, data files, and/or displays. The client-server infrastructure supports seamless navigation between the supported asynchronous and synchronous activities in the collaboration place. Additionally, the client-server architecture supports data persistence, so that data files associated with the collaboration place can be stored for subsequent access.
1 . A method for managing a notification in a collaborative space, the method comprising:
associating the collaboration place with first and second collaboration place interfaces executing on respective first and second clients;
monitoring a plurality of activities in the collaboration place, including activities from the first and second collaboration place interfaces; and
generating the notification regarding one or more of the activities, wherein one or more of the notification items is for presentation to one or more viewing users and relates to an activity in a linked collaboration place
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the collaboration place interfaces comprises a website.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
administering friends information for users of the collaboration place.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity was performed by a user and wherein the notification is displayed in at least one display of at least one of the interfaces based on definitions of notifications defined by a collaboration object, the user's identity, or a type of notification configured for the first or second clients, and wherein the linked collaboration place includes the collaboration place.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
including in the collaboration place interfaces, at least one display for presenting data related to at least one of a multimedia application.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing a website interface for access to the collaboration place to a user without access to the first and second collaboration place interfaces.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing at least one of the notification to a user of the collaboration place; and
interfacing with the collaboration place via a third-party application to provide notifications for activities performed in the third-party application, wherein the notification is based on configuration of user related data
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the notification includes (a) information about a friend of a user receiving the notification, including an activity of the friend, (b) a presence of a user in the collaboration place, or (c) a link to data or another collaboration place.
13 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
responding to a user dragging and dropping an icon into the first or second interfaces by escalating the collaboration place interfaces, wherein the icon represents attributes of a person, group, document, or application, and wherein the notification includes a presence indicator that is displayed base on a user-configurable settings.
14 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
responding to a user dragging and dropping an icon of another user into the private interface by providing the other user temporary access to a private interface, wherein at least one of the first and second collaboration place interfaces is the private interface for establishing a personal place for a user of the interfaces, and wherein the private interface displays content that is available to the user but is not viewable to at least one other user of the collaboration place.
15 . A system for managing a notification in a collaborative space, the system comprising:
a server configured to perform actions that comprise:
associating the collaboration place with first and second collaboration place interfaces executing on respective first and second clients;
monitoring a plurality of activities in the collaboration place, including activities from the first and second collaboration place interfaces; and
generating the notification regarding one or more of the activities, wherein one or more of the notification is for presentation to one or more viewing users and relates to an activity that was performed by a user in a linked collaboration place
16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the actions of the server further comprise:
including in the collaboration place interfaces, at least one display for presenting data related to at least one of a multimedia application.
17 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the actions of the server further comprise:
providing the notification to a user of the collaboration place; and
interfacing with the collaboration place via a third-party application to provide notifications for activities performed in the third-party application, wherein the notification is based on configuration of user related data
18 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the actions of the server further comprise:
responding to a user dragging and dropping an icon into the first or second interfaces by escalating the collaboration place interfaces, wherein the icon represents attributes of a person, group, document, or application, and wherein the notification includes a presence indicator that is displayed base on a user-configurable settings.
19 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the actions of the server further comprise:
responding to a user dragging and dropping an icon of the other user into the private interface by providing the other user temporary access to a private interface, wherein at least one of the first and second collaboration place interfaces is the private interface for establishing a personal place for a user of the interfaces, and wherein the private interface displays content that is available to the user but is not viewable to at least one other user of the collaboration place.
20 . A non-transitory processor readable medium for managing a notification in a collaborative space, the medium comprising instructions that when executed by a processor causes the processor to perform actions that comprise:
associating the collaboration place with first and second collaboration place interfaces executing on respective first and second clients; monitoring a plurality of activities in the collaboration place, including activities from the first and second collaboration place interfaces; and
generating the notification regarding one or more of the activities, wherein one or more of the notification is for presentation to one or more viewing users and relates to an activity that was performed in a linked collaboration place.
