Abstract

A method and network element for sending a transition indication to transition a user equipment to a different state or mode, the method receiving a configuration message from a network; and transmitting a transition indication from the user equipment, the transition indication only includes a cause if the configuration message contains an inhibit transition indication. Also, a method and user equipment for processing a transitioning indication from a user equipment indicating the user equipment desires a transition to a different state or mode, the method comprising: receiving the transition indication from the user equipment; if the transition indication contains a cause: releasing a signaling connection of the user equipment or transitioning the user equipment to a different state or mode; and if the transition indication does not contain the cause: releasing the signaling connection.

Claims (50)

1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:

transmitting a first preference indication, the first preference indication indicating a preference for a first radio resource control (RRC) configuration;

starting a timer set to an inhibit duration value; and

inhibiting transmission of a second preference indication based on the inhibit duration value associated with the first preference indication, wherein the first preference indication and the second preference indication are associated with power consumption.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transmission of the second preference indication is inhibited whilst the timer is running.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the inhibit duration value is selected from a list of predetermined values.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the list includes a value to indicate that there is no need for the UE to apply the timer.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the inhibit duration value is zero.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein the timer is not set.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving the inhibit duration value from a network.

8. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by a processor of a user equipment, cause execution of the method of claim 1 .

9. A method performed by a user equipment (UE), the method comprising:

receiving a message from a network, the message including an inhibit duration value;

starting a timer with a timer value set to the inhibit duration value;

determining that the timer is not running; and

based on the determining, transmitting a preference indication of the UE, wherein the preference indication is associated with power consumption and relates to a preference for a first radio resource control (RRC) configuration.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the inhibit duration value corresponds to a time duration during which the UE is prohibited from transmitting the preference indication.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the inhibit duration value is selected from a list of predetermined values.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the list includes a value to indicate that there is no need for the UE to apply the timer.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the timer is not set.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the value to indicate that there is no need for the UE to apply the timer is zero.

15. The method of claim 9 , further comprising inhibiting further transmission of preference indications while the timer is running.

16. The method of claim 9 , further comprising using the inhibit duration value until the inhibit duration value is updated with a new inhibit duration value for a new cell.

17. The method of claim 9 , further comprising transmitting another preference indication for a second RRC configuration.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the other preference indication is associated with power consumption.

19. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by a processor of a user equipment, cause execution of the method of claim 9 .

20. A user equipment (UE) comprising at least one processor configured to:

transmit a first preference indication, the first preference indication indicating a preference for a first radio resource control (RRC) configuration;

start a timer set to an inhibit duration value; and

inhibit transmission of a second preference indication based on the inhibit duration value associated with the first preference indication, wherein the first preference indication and the second preference indication are associated with power consumption.

21. The UE of claim 20 , wherein the transmission of the second preference indication is inhibited whilst the timer is running.

22. The UE of claim 20 , wherein the inhibit duration value is selected from a list of predetermined values.

23. The UE of claim 22 , wherein the list includes a value to indicate that there is no need for the UE to apply the timer.

24. The UE of claim 23 , wherein the inhibit duration value is zero.

25. The UE of claim 23 , wherein the timer is not set.

26. The UE of claim 20 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to receive the inhibit duration value from a network.

27. A user equipment (UE) comprising at least one processor configured to:

receive a message from a network, the message including an inhibit duration value;

start a timer with a timer value set to the inhibit duration value;

determine that the timer is not running; and

based on the determining, transmitting a preference indication of the UE, the preference indication relating to a preference for a first radio resource control (RRC) configuration, wherein the preference indication is associated with power consumption.

28. The UE of claim 27 , wherein the inhibit duration value corresponds to a time duration during which the UE is prohibited from transmitting the preference indication.

29. The UE of claim 28 , wherein the inhibit duration value is selected from a list of predetermined values.

30. The UE of claim 29 , wherein the list includes a value to indicate that there is no need for the UE to apply the timer.

31. The UE of claim 30 , wherein the timer is not set.

32. The UE of claim 30 , wherein the value to indicate that there is no need for the UE to apply the timer is zero.

33. The UE of claim 27 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to inhibit further transmission of preference indications while the timer is running.

34. The UE of claim 27 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to use the inhibit duration value until the inhibit duration value is updated with a new inhibit duration value for a new cell.

35. The UE of claim 27 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to transmit another preference indication for a second RRC configuration.

36. The UE of claim 35 , wherein the other preference indication is associated with power consumption.
